Description

ReStore Retail and Donations Associate

Habitat for Humanity of Dane County
Location: ReStore West 6201 Odana Rd Madison, WI 53719
Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday (8:30-5:15)

Stock the Store. Strengthen the Community.

At Habitat for Humanity of Dane County ReStore, every cabinet lifted, every sofa staged, and every donation received helps build something bigger: safe, affordable housing for families in our community.

This is not a desk job.

This is a hands-on, active, on-your-feet role for someone who likes to move, lift, organize, and stay busy. If you enjoy physical work, helping people, and seeing the direct impact of your effort at the end of each shift, this could be the right fit for you.

What You’ll Do

Be the First Point of Contact

  • Welcome and assist donors and shoppers at the loading dock, on the sales floor, and over the phone
  • Clearly communicate donation guidelines and store policies
  • Regularly help load and unload furniture, appliances, building materials, and home goods
  • Provide cashier coverage

Keep the Store Moving

  • Work closely with team members to create a smooth donor, shopper, and volunteer experience
  • Track donation activity in the acceptance area
  • Capture commercial donor leads for follow-up
  • Conduct virtual inventory checks and assist with social media support

Prepare and Merchandise Donations

  • Inspect donated items and determine sellability
  • Sort, clean, price, label, and stage merchandise
  • Move and arrange furniture and materials on the sales floor
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe store environment
  • Assist with recycling or disposal of unsellable items

This Role Is Physically Active

This position requires:

  • Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds
  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Moving furniture, appliances, cabinetry, and building materials
  • Working in a fast-paced retail warehouse environment
  • If you prefer staying active over sitting at a desk, you will likely thrive here.

Benefits:

As a valued member of our team, you will be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a 4% employer match
  • 100% employer-paid life insurance
  • 13 paid holidays
  • Paid Time Off (PTO): You will immediately begin accruing PTO upon hire. In your first year, you will receive 16 days (128 hours) of PTO.

Why Join Habitat ReStore?

Requirements

What You Bring

  • Commitment to the Habitat for Humanity mission
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working with diverse customers and volunteers
  • Ability to multitask in a busy, team-oriented environment
  • Comfort using technology including MS Office, Teams, and phone-based apps
  • Retail experience preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of building materials and hardware preferred but not required
  • Valid driver’s license or reliable transportation
