Full job description

Join the SBS faculty for the 2026-2027 school year!

The Stony Brook School seeks a talented, mission-aligned faculty member to join our Math Department beginning in August 2026. This role is expected to center on our foundational courses (Geometry in particular), with opportunities to teach upward through the sequence including junior- and senior-level math courses, depending on departmental needs.

Founded in 1922, The Stony Brook School is a co-ed Christian college-prep boarding and day school for grades 7-12 on a 55-acre campus on Long Island's North Shore. We unite academic rigor with authentic Christian faith in a diverse, global community.

All candidates should have a demonstrable Christian commitment and an educational philosophy that is consistent with The Stony Brook School's mission. For more information on the many benefits of working at The Stony Brook School, please view our Faculty Profile here.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in mathematics, Education, or a related field (master's degree strongly preferred)
  • Three or more years of teaching experience
  • A demonstrated growth mindset and enthusiasm for developing as a teacher, mentor, and colleague
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • A desire to serve in a faith-based educational environment that emphasizes Christian scholarship and character formation
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with a team of educators
  • Expertise in planning and delivering mission-aligned curriculum and lessons with clear objectives, strong materials, and thoughtful assessments that move students toward growth and mastery
  • Experience leading student-centered math classes (including inquiry-based learning, problem-based lessons, mathematical discourse, and collaborative problem-solving) that build strong reasoning and habits of Christian virtue and character

Beyond teaching, SBS faculty are active members of our boarding school community, sharing in evening and weekend supervision, coaching athletics or leading co-curriculars, chaperoning events, proctoring study halls, and supporting community meals. Full-time faculty typically teach 4-5 classes, lead or assist with 1-2 co-curricular commitments, and participate in our residential life program.

Why SBS?

The Stony Brook School is an exceptional place to teach, live, and grow. Faculty enjoy a rare blend of purpose, community, and support on our beautiful 55-acre campus, just one hour from New York City.

Employee benefits include:

  • Free on-campus housing, including utilities and maintenance
  • Free meals for you and your family while school is in session
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and hospital insurance for employees and their families (valued at approximately $54,000 annually)
  • Retirement plan with immediate vesting and a 7.5% employer matching contribution
  • School-paid life insurance, long-term disability, short-term disability, and accidental death and dismemberment coverage.
  • 100% tuition remission for faculty children attending The Stony Brook School
  • Relocation assistance is available through a moving reimbursement program
  • A collaborative, faith-centered community committed to excellence, growth, and lifelong learning

Compensation

Salary Range: $31,000 – $85,000 Final salary will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and role responsibilities.
