Full job description
Job Title: Lifeguard
Reports to: Deck Supervisor
FLSA Status: Part time, Non-Exempt
Summary: We’re looking for an alert, dependable, and safety-first team member to join us as a Lifeguard. This role is the backbone of what we do. You'll be poolside every shift, keeping a watchful eye over our swimmers, and creating a safe environment where kids and families feel confident in the water. If you take safety seriously, show up ready to lead by example, and genuinely care about the people around you, this role is for you!
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain constant, focused surveillance of all patrons in the facility and respond immediately and appropriately to any emergency.
Provide emergency care and first aid until EMS arrives, and ensure EMS is contacted through the most appropriate means.
Communicate facility rules to members and guests fairly, consistently, and with a welcoming attitude.
Inform management of any incidents accurately and in a timely manner.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized facility throughout every shift.
Help drive our mission and ensure everyone has a Golden Experience while in the building.
What We’re Looking For:
A safety-first mindset and the ability to stay calm and decisive under pressure.
Dependable, punctual, and ready to show up fully focused every shift.
Strong communication skills with both team members and families.
Required to obtain Lifeguard certification through Goldfish Swim School, if not certified already.
6 months of lifeguard experience at an aquatic facility or camp preferred.
Must be available for evening and weekend shifts.
While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat, humidity, and chlorine. Noise level is usually moderate.
What Success Looks Like:
Every swimmer is accounted for, and every shift is covered with full attention.
Families feel safe bringing their children to our facility because the standard never slips.
Emergencies are handled with composure, professionalism, and by the book.
The pool deck is clean, organized, and reflects the Goldfish standard.
Our Culture: At Goldfish Swim School, we believe every child deserves to be safe in and around water. Our team is passionate, people-first, and committed to a golden experience every day. Our Lifeguards are a key part of making that happen, from the first lesson, to the first level up, and beyond.
Goldfish Swim School was founded in 2005 by husband and wife team Chris and Jenny McCuiston. Chris and Jenny took a concept that they formulated with nearly two years of research, and cultivated a business that provides results in the learn-to-swim environment that you simply can’t find anywhere else. Their proprietary curriculum and systems were developed after traveling the country in search of the “best practices” to teach babies and young children how to swim.
The first school, in Birmingham, Michigan, opened in 2006, and quickly saw success. Opening its doors with over 500 students at inception, Goldfish currently teaches more than 70,000 students per month across the franchise system.
At the beginning of 2008, it made sense to begin the franchising process. As of early 2017, we are currently in the process of expanding franchise opportunities throughout the country and internationally, with over 80 schools open or in development in more than 23 states and Canada.
