Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is the state’s largest hunger relief organization and one of the leading food banks in the Feeding America Network. In additional to vital hunger relief programs in our 21-county service area, we also operate Fresh Connect Central, a regional produce cooperative for Feeding America, serve as a contract reclamation site for Kroger Central Division, and are a staging site for FEMA disaster response.
The Protein Production Supervisor leads the processing and packaging of temperature-controlled products within refrigerated and frozen environments, ensuring efficient operations that meet production deadlines and uphold the highest standards of food safety and quality. This role oversees product quality from raw to finished goods, maintains inventory accuracy, and manages daily production activities in a fast-paced warehouse setting. The PPC Supervisor also provides leadership to staff, driving performance through strong communication, attention to detail, and accountability, while supporting continuous improvement efforts. All responsibilities and duties will further Gleaners’ mission to be a leader in the fight against hunger.

Essential Functions of Protein Production Supervisor :
Execute daily processing and packaging of temperature-controlled products (refrigerated and frozen) to meet production goals while maintaining strict food safety and quality standards.
Coordinate production schedules and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient operations and timely completion of work.
Monitor and verify product quality at all stages, ensuring compliance with all food safety regulations (Gleaners, Feeding America, AIB, USDA, ISDH and any other applicable processes or regulations for safe and sanitary production and storage of all products).
Supervise sanitation processes for all PPC areas of operation and equipment, including pre-operational inspections, ATP testing, and documentation to ensure a clean and compliant work environment. Document as needed.
Maintain accurate inventory and production records, including data entry into ERP systems to ensure product traceability and reporting accuracy.
Oversee preparation of finished goods for distribution, including labeling, palletizing, and shipment coordination.
Lead, coach, and develop team members by assigning work, monitoring performance, providing feedback, and promoting accountability and engagement.
Manage attendance, foster engagement, and promote a collaborative team environment aligned with organizational goals.
Train team members on production and packaging equipment, including proper setup, operation (including programing labels and making settings changes), and safety procedures.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, efficiency, and product quality.
Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
Adapt to changing operational needs within the distribution center as required.
Serve as a key participant in HACCP programs and communicate with USDA regulatory inspectors as needed.

Education and/or Experience of Protein Production Supervisor:
College Diploma or equivalent experience
3-5 years of experience in management and supervision of employees required
Bilingual desired (Spanish/English)
Other Skills and Abilities of Protein Production Supervisor:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and communicate professionally with diverse staff, volunteers, donors, and stakeholders.
Exceptional attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely, ensuring full compliance with established policies and procedures.
Ability to perform basic math functions. (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
Ability to accurately count, track, and maintain inventory and related records. Ability to work safely, efficiently, and accurately with minimal supervision.
Working knowledge of warehouse inventory and stock management procedures.
Commitment to a service-oriented organization that values teamwork, collaboration, and innovation.
Positive attitude with a willingness to support team goals and organizational objectives.
