The New School Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program is a New York State Education Department–funded program that offers financial, academic, and socio-emotional support for five years of undergraduate study and related educational activities. It is designed specifically for economically and educationally disadvantaged students who might not meet traditional college admissions criteria but demonstrate promise and potential for academic achievement and success.
At The New School, the HEOP office is housed under the Student Affairs in which they will coordinate, evaluate, and administer academic, and operational activities of the program to foster student growth and success. HEOP Mentors will report to the HEOP Manager. HEOP mentors will support the HEOP program including supporting events from prep to breakdown, assist with administrative tasks, assist HEOP students through email and in person. HEOP Mentors will also contribute to content on social media and assist with visuals for promotional material.
This is a one-academic-year position beginning Fall 26 through Spring 27, 9 hours per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the HEOP program with event preparation including but not limited to transporting materials, decorating & arranging spaces, and event breakdown/clean-up
Perform administrative duties related to the functional operation of the HEOP Space
Communicate important information regularly to first-year HEOP students via email
Contribute content on the official @NewSchoolStudentLife Instagram page in accordance with Student Success and university guidelines and policies.
Assist with creating visual materials for college fairs, school visits, HEOP and New School Firsts specific events
Assist HEOP students with challenges they may be experiencing by providing support and guidance
Participate in the assessment efforts of HEOP by assisting in the administration of surveys to students, as well as filling out assessment tools aimed at understanding learning outcomes
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Passionate about access/opportunity programs
Be open-minded, and culturally competent
Takes initiative, works independently and collaboratively, strong work ethic
Meets deadlines promptly, communicates clearly, and asks for help when needed
Uses good judgment, thinks critically and thoughtfully
Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Assist students with the development of their study skills
Knowledge of social media platforms such as but not limited to IG, Facebook, etc.
Experience with researching, brainstorming, ideating, and creating programming and marketing materials
Must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 35lbs
Must be available to attend in person training on September 1st
WORK MODE
On-Campus Position - Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being that which is not feasible, or not in the best interest of the organization, to be performed remotely. #LI-DNI

$18 per hour
