A Day in the Life and the Impact You Will Make:
As a Senior Health & Safety Consultant (Part-Time Flex) at DEKRA, you will support clients in managing complex Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) risks by providing senior-level expertise, program leadership, and strategic advisory support. You will help protect workers, safeguard environmental resources, and strengthen client safety cultures by driving system-level improvement rather than transactional execution. This role is designed for an experienced EHS professional who brings deep technical foundations in areas such as occupational safety, construction safety, electrical safety, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental management, and applies that knowledge primarily through program development, governance, and client advisory engagements.
What You’ll Do:
Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment by actively participating, taking responsibility, and following established procedures and policies.
Provide day-to-day leadership and management of DEKRA’s proprietary Safety products and services.
Serve as a subject matter expert in an array of Health and Safety regulations, standards, and industry best practices, including:
Regulatory & Compliance Expertise:
OSHA Working knowledge of U.S. EHS regulatory frameworks, including:
OSHA General Industry and Construction Standards (29 CFR 1910 / 1926)
EPA environmental requirements relevant to operations (e.g., RCRA, CWA, CAA – at a programmatic level)
Ability to translate regulatory obligations into scalable programs, procedures, and governance models, rather than preparing detailed permit submittals or technical filings
Programmatic and Risk Management Expertise:
Design, implementation, and maturation of EHS programs, including:
Electrical safety and hazardous energy control programs (e.g., LOTO, energized work governance)
Industrial hygiene and occupational health programs (exposure risk prioritization, control strategies, oversight of sampling data)
Environmental Management Systems (EMS), including ISO 14001 integration and governance
Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) and Human Performance principles
Development of policies, standards, procedures, and performance metrics across EHS disciplines
Support for EHS risk evaluations during mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures
Cultural, Strategic, and Advisory Expertise:
Safety and environmental culture assessments and improvement planning
Development and use of leading indicators and performance dashboards
Executive and operational leadership coaching on EHS risk and accountability
Root cause analysis of incidents and near misses (TapRooT®, RCA, 5-Why), including health, safety, and environmental contributors
Support for integrated management systems (e.g., ISO 45001 / ISO 14001)
Preparation and delivery of clear, decision-ready insights for client leadership teams
Provide high-quality client service in support of DEKRA’s EHS solutions and systems
Assess, audit, and review client programs and operations; identify gaps and recommend practical improvements
Prepare and present reports, findings, and recommendations to client safety, environmental, and leadership teams
Support business development through technical input, scoping, and proposal support
Contribute to thought leadership, training, and client presentations as needed
Contribute to the development and application of AI-enabled consulting approaches that enhance EHS program effectiveness, insight generation, and client value.
What You’ll Bring:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in EHS, industrial hygiene, environmental studies, engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Experience: 10+ years of EHS experience in consulting, industry, or regulatory environments, with demonstrated leadership in program development, governance, or enterprise-level risk management.
Certifications: CSP and/or CIH preferred, other EHS or management system credentials a plus
Demonstrated ability to operate as a senior advisor, not just a technical executor
Strong understanding of electrical safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental risks, applied through systems and programmatic controls
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level reporting
Proven client relationship management and facilitation skills
Strong planning, prioritization, and project management capabilities
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within delivery teams and client organizations
Experience supporting organizational improvement initiatives (safety, health, environmental, or quality)
Strong workshop facilitation, training, and presentation skills
Comfort operating in a flexible, part-time capacity, adapting quickly to changing client needs
Physical Considerations:
Ability to work in a variety of client locations/environments, including indoors/outdoors and on uneven terrain.
Must be able to work variable shifts as required by client operations.
Ability to travel extensively, including prolonged driving and air travel.
Capable of lifting 25–50 lbs (luggage).
Extended periods of computer work and standing.
Travel Considerations:
Domestic travel required, yet negotiable and can vary depending on desired workload and expertise.
