Job Description

Location: Ideal candidate is located in Calgary and surrounding area.

Join us as the Director of Planning and Scheduling and take ownership of how planning drives performance across our business. You will shape the future of scheduling by establishing best practices, developing talent, and enabling teams to deliver projects more efficiently across a diverse portfolio of construction work.

This role, preferably based out of our Calgary, AB office, is accountable for setting standards, building scalable systems, developing talent, and enabling project teams to plan and execute work in the most efficient and effective way. Rather than owning day-to-day project delivery, the Director ensures that planning and scheduling practices are consistent, actionable, and fully integrated across preconstruction and operations.

Centre of Excellence Leadership

  • Lead the Planning and Scheduling function within the Centre of Excellence
  • Establish enterprise standards, methodologies, and best practices for construction scheduling
  • Act as the subject matter authority for planning and scheduling across all business units
  • Enable consistent, repeatable scheduling approaches while allowing flexibility for project-specific execution

Standards, Governance & Methodology

  • Develop and maintain corporate scheduling standards, templates, and procedures
  • Define expectations for baseline schedules, updates, progress measurement, and look-ahead planning
  • Establish governance models for schedule review, change management, and escalation
  • Ensure planning practices align with contract requirements, risk management frameworks, and company policies

Preconstruction Enablement

  • Support preconstruction and pursuit teams with schedule strategy, feasibility reviews, and risk analysis
  • Ensure constructability, phasing, and trade sequencing are embedded in preconstruction schedules
  • Standardize how schedules support bid strategy, logistics planning, and project handoff to operations
  • Capture lessons learned to continuously improve preconstruction planning accuracy

Operations Enablement & Field Integration

  • Partner with Operations leadership to ensure schedules support field execution and Superintendent work plans
  • Promote use of look-ahead planning, pull planning, and collaborative trade coordination
  • Provide expert support for schedule recovery strategies and complex phasing challenges
  • Ensure schedules are living tools used by project teams, not compliance documents

Reporting requirements

  • Provide executive-level visibility into schedule health, risks, and trends at the corporate level
  • Define and track key scheduling KPIs and maturity metrics
  • Develop dashboards and reporting standards that support data-driven decision-making
  • Identify systemic issues and drive enterprise-level improvements

Change, Risk & Claims Support

  • Act as escalation support for complex schedule impacts, time extensions, and delay analysis
  • Provide guidance on Time Impact Analysis (TIA) and schedule narratives
  • Support claims avoidance strategies through strong schedule governance and documentation
  • Partner with Legal and Commercial teams on schedule-related disputes as needed

Talent Development & Capability Building

  • Develop, and mentor district level schedulers, and scheduling managers
  • Define role clarity, competency expectations, and career paths within the planning discipline
  • Provide training to project managers and superintendents on effective schedule use
  • Build a sustainable and scalable planning capability across the company

Systems, Tools & Continuous Improvement

  • Own the strategic roadmap for scheduling tools and systems (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, Power BI)
  • Standardize coding structures, reporting outputs, and data integration
  • Improve alignment between schedule data, cost control, and progress tracking
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in planning technologies and workflows

Qualifications

Experience

  • 10 - 15+ years of experience in construction planning, scheduling, or project controls
  • Minimum 5 years in a senior leadership or enterprise-level role
  • Proven experience supporting:
    • Commercial, residential, institutional or industrial GC projects
    • Multi-project portfolios and shared service models
    • Both preconstruction and active construction environments

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field
  • Master’s degree or MBA considered an asset

Technical Expertise

  • Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 (required)
  • Strong understanding of critical path method (CPM), float analysis, and recovery planning
  • Experience with pull planning / collaborative scheduling methods
  • Strong working knowledge of GC contracts, procurement sequencing, and trade coordination

Core Competencies

  • Enterprise mindset with strong operational credibility
  • Ability to balance standardization with real-world construction flexibility
  • Influential leader who partners effectively with Operations and Field teams
  • Strong analytical, communication, and coaching skills
  • Continuous improvement orientation and systems thinking

Preferred Certifications

  • PMP (Project Management Professional)
  • PSP (AACE – Planning & Scheduling Professional)
  • CCM (Certified Construction Manager)

Working Conditions

  • Regular interaction with project teams and periodic site visits
  • Occasional travel to regional projects
