It is an exciting time at the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) as we continue to undertake our mission of providing good, nutritious food today and food to enable brighter futures. On an annual basis CAFB distributes about 40 million meals worth of food through a network of hundreds of partners across the DMV. We know that creating long-term solutions to food security requires more than meals. It requires education, training, and collaboration across the public, private and social service ecosystems. We are seeking people with strong ideas and a passion to come together to address the complex interrelated issues of food security, poverty, and equity. We are expanding in multiple ways: providing food for today and addressing the root causes of hunger by partnering with organizations that provide critical services like job training programs, health care and education. Description

Receives, counts, locates and inspects food and non-food items. This position performs general warehouse duties, such as filling orders, the loading and unloading of trucks, moves and locates product, assists with volunteer projects, maintain cleanliness of the distribution center by following food safety and company sanitation and cleanliness guidelines. This position works in a warehouse setting with some outdoor exposure during the workday as well as frequent exposure to changes in temperatures.

Essential Functions

Accurately fills agency orders by utilizing the warehouse technology system to pull products from the warehouse location, scan the product and rack label and then load the cases on pallets for shipping or pick-up.
Maintains accurate inventory levels by completing regular inventory counts with a goal of no less than 95% accuracy.
Ensures product is secured by ensuring product is safely stacked and shrink wrapped to the pallet.
Safely operates warehouse equipment and follows all company safety rules and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
Assists other departments within operations depending on the daily needs of the warehouse.
Maintains a high level of sanitation and cleanliness throughout the building including assigned racks, freezer, and cooler locations.
Completes daily warehouse sanitation logs and equipment checklist to maintain our warehouse equipment.
Adheres to and follows all AIB Food Safety practices and procedures.
Backfill for the Receiving team as needed.
Cross train to provide support across Operations department.
Performs other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

QualificationsRequirements

HS Diploma or GED

2 years’ experience in a warehouse or operations environment.
Experience with handheld scanning devices and warehouse technology.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle, forklift, or pallet jack with a valid license.
Ability to work overtime as needed, including weekends.

Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to communicate with a variety of staff, volunteers, donors, and agency representatives.
Adheres to warehouse safety as regulated by OSHA and follow all AIB Food Safety Guidelines.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Flexible and a team player.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Physical activities involve standing for more than 75% of the workday.
Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Occasionally required to climb or balance.
Must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
This position works in a warehouse setting, with some outdoor exposure during the workday. Area contains moving forklifts and pallet jacks.

Compensation

$24.08 to $29.48 hourly
This position is classified as non-exempt and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.

Schedule

Regular work hours are generally Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break; with weekends or extended hours as assigned for special events or projects.
