Full job description

The COC’s Facilities Management division is looking for a Facilities Manager to oversee the company’s real-estate portfolio. The portfolio consists of a live-performance venue, a construction workshop, and a historical building that houses offices, rehearsal spaces, and workshops. The Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts (FSCPA) is a 2000-seat + opera house in the heart of downtown Toronto that marks its 20th anniversary in in September 2026. The FSCPA is the home of the Canadian Opera Company and the National Ballet of Canada’s programming and events, and hosts a variety of other events including galas, meetings, corporate functions, film screenings, and social events. The Scene Shop is a construction workshop focused on producing scenery for the Canadian Opera Company. The Joey and Toby Tannenbaum Opera Centre is a historical site located in Corktown and houses the Canadian Opera Company’s offices, rehearsal spaces, and workshops for costumes, props, and wigs.

We are now accepting applications for the full-time position of Facilities Manager, reporting to the Associate Director, Facilities.

OVERVIEW

Under the direction of the Associate Director, Facilities, this position plays a critical role in ensuring patrons and guests have an exceptional experience when attending performances and special events at the FSCPA. The role manages maintenance activities, renovations, building operations, facility logistics, staff scheduling, and vendor relationships across the real estate portfolio to ensure a safe, functional, and positive experience for colleagues, tenants, and patrons. Success requires effective management and development of positive relationships with colleagues vendors, and partners; organizational skills and financial aptitude.

This is an in-person position, with limited ability to work remotely and will require evening and weekend shifts.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage operations of the Building Services department to ensure reliability, safety, and uninterrupted service delivery, including maintenance, repairs, capital projects, asset lifecycle management, and contractor coordination
  • Establish and enforce preventative maintenance programs, operational standards, procedures and policies
  • Manage department initiatives, including incident response and coordination with other departments, tenants, vendors, and clients
  • Oversee inspections, repairs, and lifecycle planning of building systems, ensuring compliance with legislation and standards
  • Oversee facility readiness and operational support for building activities and special events, including event setup and teardown logistics
  • Lead and mentor staff to drive performance, accountability, and service excellence, while managing payroll processing and administrative documentation for facilities staff
  • Manage departmental budgets, financial planning, and operational expenditures while overseeing vendor and service provider relationships
  • Initiate and direct procurement activities, including obtaining quotes, tracking expenses, and communicating operational needs that exceed budget parameters



EXPERIENCE and SKILLS

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in facilities management, operations, event coordination, or a related field
  • Minimum five to seven years of leadership experience coordinating operations, maintenance, or facilities services
  • IFMA accredited Facility Management Professional an asset
  • Excellent leadership experience supporting operational staff
  • Ability to build, manage, and coach high performing teams in high pressure environments
  • Experience working in environments supporting events, venues, or multi-tenant facilities is an asset
  • Knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and safety systems.
  • Experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and operational planning.
