Ball State University Dining has an opportunity for a Food Service Worker position at the Taco Bell in the Student CenterTally Dining area. What you'll do and what you'll bring:

Position Function: Under supervision, perform a variety of tasks required in the preparation and serving of food.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Accurately assemble supplies and materials; set up service area and serve food as required.

Requires the physical ability to walk, push, pull, climb, crouch, reach, stoop, feel, finger, stand for an extended period of time, possess dexterity and strength in the hands, arms, and shoulders, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. Task requires visual ability to read stem thermometer, menu and computer records, distinguish color, perceive depth, etc. Task requires ability to use all beverage machines, toaster, ice cream machines, ice dispenser, salad bar, food warmer, glassware and china dispenser, serving utensils, rubber, plastic and latex gloves, and all other food service equipment. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, noise, extreme heat, etc. Task requires mental ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information.

2. Hand wash and store pots, pans, and food service equipment.

Requires the physical ability to crouch, reach, stand, walk, grasp, feel, push, pull, stoop, climb, finger, keep hands in water for several hours per day, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. Task requires visual ability to distinguish color, perceive depth, etc. Task requires the ability to use pots, pans, brooms, gloves, small food service equipment, chemical compounds, scratch pads, garbage disposal, water, etc. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, noise, chemicals, steam, heat, etc. Task requires mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend and follow written instructions, information, chemical labels, thermostats, etc.

3. Clean equipment and work area, maintaining sanitation and safety.

Requires the physical ability to crouch, reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, feel, push, pull, stoop, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. Task requires visual ability to read directions on cleaning compounds, MSDS forms, perceive depth, etc. Task requires the ability to use chemical compounds, cleaning utensils, gloves, masks, etc. Employee complies with University Waste Management procedures. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, soaps, cleaning compounds, etc. Task requires mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend and follow written instruction and information.

4. Perform checker/cashier duties using computerized machinery, terminals, calculators, and maintain records.

Requires the physical ability to grasp, push, pull, stoop, crouch, reach, walk, stand, lift, feel, have dexterity and strength in hands, and exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Task requires the visual ability to perceive depth, etc. Task requires the ability to use computerized card reader, cash register, terminals, calculators, scales, etc. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions. Task requires the mental ability to perform basic mathematical functions, analyze situations, receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information, etc.

5. Greet customers to ensure positive relationships.

Requires the ability to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time, etc. Task requires the visual ability to direct customers to key areas, perceive depth, etc. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions. Task requires ability to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information. Task requires employee to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 10 pounds of force frequently.

6. Set up, operate and clean dishwashing machinery and auxiliary equipment; move dishware and equipment to proper locations.

Requires the physical ability to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time during shift, keep hands in water for several hours per day, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. Task requires visual ability to distinguish color, perceive depth, etc. Task requires the use of dish machine, power boosters, mop buckets with wringers, carts, thermometers, chemical electronic devices, garbage disposals, brooms, chemical compounds, gloves, dishes, glass, trays, silver dispensers, racks, trash containers, etc. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, extreme heat, chemicals, noise, etc. Task requires the mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend, follow and provide written instructions, information, etc.

7. Scrape and wash dishes.

Requires the physical ability to bend, stoop, crouch, push, pull, grasp, feel, stand for extended periods of time during work shift, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. Task requires the visual ability to determine cleanliness, perceive depth, etc. Task requires the use of valve handles, garbage disposal, glass/silverware racks, sprayer, gloves, goggles, etc. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, noise, chemicals, steam, extreme heat, etc. Task requires the mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend, follow and provide written instructions, information, etc.

8. Clean, prepare, store, and deliver fresh produce.
Requires the physical ability to grasp, crouch, reach, lift, feel, push, pull, stoop, finger, keep hands in water for several hours per day, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. Task requires the visual ability to determine cleanliness, distinguish color, perceive depth, etc. Task requires the use of knives, potato peeler, garbage disposal, mobile carts, gloves, brushes, etc. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, noise, etc. Task requires the mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow and provide oral instructions and information, and to receive, comprehend, follow and provide written instructions, information, etc.

9. Count and record amounts of food prepared and/or served.

Requires the physical ability to grasp and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. Task requires the visual ability to read a scale, record food amounts, etc. Task requires the use of a calculator, pencil, portion and balance scales, computer sheets, etc. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions. Task requires the mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow and provide oral instructions, to read, comprehend, follow and provide written instructions, information, etc., and to perform basic mathematical functions such as counting and reading scales.

10. Grill or carve food as required.

Requires the physical ability to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time, lift, reach, finger, crouch, feel, push, pull, stoop, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. Task requires the visual ability to read menus and thermometers, perceive depth, distinguish color, etc. Task requires the use of grills and servery equipment, knives, thermometer, arm protectors, gloves, etc. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, extreme heat, etc. Task requires the mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend, follow and provide written instructions, information, etc.

11. Obtain supplies from storage areas.

Requires the physical ability to finger, crouch, reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, feel, push, pull, stoop, balance, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. Task requires the visual ability to read food labels and lists of needed food, perceive depth, etc. Task requires the use of carts, etc. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions. 12. Assist with laundry program.

Requires the physical ability to finger, crouch, reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, feel, push, pull, stoop, balance, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. 13. Wait and bus tables as assigned.

14. Assign work to and direct student employees.

Requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time, achieve results through student employees, and give clear direction. Task requires the visual ability to perceive depth. 15. Assist cooks in preparing food.

16. Enforce all rules and regulations, including but not limited to; proper payment of food and proper procedures are followed by university employees regarding the payment of food. Report all violations immediately to management.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Successful completion of Cashier Training Class and passing score on final test is required for positions with cashiering duties.
2.Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, and University policies, procedures and communications.
3.No allergies to soaps, cleaning agents, oven cleaners, or other materials or environmental factors in food service, e.g., steam, dust, etc.
4.Must have clean body, teeth, hair, nails, and clothing.
5.Must be able to perform all physical and mental requirements outlined in each job duty/responsibility.
6.You must be 18 years or older.


Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience in a school cafeteria, hospital cafeteria, or similar experience in quantity food preparation and/or service.
