Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the north-east of Melbourne and statewide. We have a highly engaged, diverse and collaborative workforce that is unified by our goal to help people live healthy and fulfilled lives.
About the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Department
The Workforce Health, Safety and Wellbeing Department sits within the People and Culture Directorate at Austin Health. We are based at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and is responsible for providing advisory services, strategic direction and planning for the health, safety and wellbeing of the workforce across all campuses, covering over 11,500 employees.
Key areas of responsibility include occupational health and safety management systems, injury management and return to work, workforce wellbeing, emergency preparedness and business continuity.
About the role
Following the strong response to the first phase of our recruitment campaign, we are excited to continue growing Austin Health's OVA Education and Training team.
As an OVA Education and Training Specialist, you will design, deliver and evaluate high-quality, evidence-informed education programs that build workforce capability in the early recognition, prevention and management of OVA. Working within a newly established team, you will have the opportunity to influence practice, strengthen organisational capability and contribute to safer outcomes for staff, patients and consumers.
A regular day will see you:
Deliver and evaluate organisation-wide training to prevent and manage OVA.
Design engaging, evidence-informed education programs across clinical and non-clinical teams.
Build workforce capability in early intervention, de-escalation and safe response to behaviours of concern.
Collaborate with stakeholders to implement consistent, best practice learning strategies across the organisation.
Contribute to safer workplaces by strengthening systems, reducing risk and driving continuous improvement.
About you
You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your skill set.
To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:
Relevant professional qualification in a health-related discipline (e.g. Registered Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse and Allied Health, and registered with the relevant governing body without restriction).
Extensive experience designing and delivering adult education and workforce training in healthcare environments.
Strong clinical knowledge in recognising, preventing and managing occupational violence and behaviours of concern or distress.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and build relationships.
Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training across multiple formats, including face-to-face and online.
Proven organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, work collaboratively and support change.
