Full job description

ASME helps the global engineering community develop solutions to real world challenges. Founded in 1880 as The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME is a nonprofit professional organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing and skill development across all engineering disciplines, while promoting the vital role of the engineer in society. ASME codes and standards, publications, conferences, continuing education, and professional development programs provide a foundation for advancing technical knowledge and a safer world. From college students and early-career engineers to project managers, corporate executives, researchers and academic leaders, ASME's members are as diverse as the engineering community itself.

ASME is seeking a Human Resources (HR) Intern who is enthusiastic about helping others feel supported, included, and empowered to succeed. The HR Intern will have the opportunity to assist with various tasks and projects within our Human Resources department and gain hands-on experience supporting key functions related to learning and development, inclusion and culture. Responsibilities include assisting with items such as:

  • Administering the Learning Management System (LMS) and supporting other talent development software and content management tools;
  • Tracking training activity and preparing reports against established metrics;
  • Gathering, mapping, and analyzing employee skills data;
  • Planning and supporting inclusion programs such as onboarding, mentoring, and Employee Resource Groups (ERGs);
  • Researching and developing inclusion resources and materials that support ASME’s internal and external customers.

To qualify for consideration, candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college or university working toward a degree (Associates, Bachelors or Masters) in Human Resources or a related discipline. Position requires knowledge of learning and training principles, proficiency in all Microsoft Office Applications and demonstrated excellence in the following:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a professional and collaborative demeanor
  • Analytical thinking and a solution-oriented approach to problem solving
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks amid competing deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) is preferred

This role is eligible for a remote work arrangement. This is anticipated as a twelve-month assignment, and the candidate is expected to be available 20 hours per work week. The compensation rate may vary based on geographic location. The New York metro area salary range for this position is estimated to be between $20-$22 per hour.

ASME is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. At ASME, we nurture an inclusive environment, and we encourage, support and celebrate diversity in the workplace. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age, gender identity & expression, sexual orientation, genetic information, citizenship status, disability, or protected veteran, military status, or any other basis protected by law.
