Responsibilities
The operator performs water quality testing, system maintenance, and operates heavy equipment such as sewer flushers and vacuum excavators. They are also responsible for investigating faults, performing repairs, and training less experienced personnel in operational duties.
Requirements
Candidates must have a minimum of three years of relevant experience and a grade 12 education or equivalent. A Class DZ driver's license and specific MECP certifications in water distribution and wastewater collection are required.
Hours of work: 40 hours per week (4-day flexible work schedule currently in effect)

The Role:
Under general supervision operates sewer flusher, flusher/vacuum and vacuum excavation equipment and performs manual and equipment operating duties in the performance of various Public Works construction, maintenance or operational functions.
In this Role you will:
Performs water quality and system tests and takes corrective actions
Performs hand excavation, backfilling, restoration brickwork and pipe laying
Maintains, operates and inspects water distribution and wastewater collection system assets
Assists in watermain tapping, sewer main rodding hydrant repair and CCTV inspection service
Operates sewer flusher, flusher/vacuum and vacuum excavation equipment in the performance of water/wastewater installation and maintenance activities
Ensures all work is performed in compliance with relevant standards, legislation and regulations
Investigates complaints, faults or problems and determines causes and remedies
Trains and instructs less experienced personnel in specific operations and maintenance dutiesMay participate in inspections and audits
Executes duties in a tactful and courteous manner, maintains a neat appearance and performs duties in a way that conveys a "positive image" of the Region of Peel
What the Role Requires:
Minimum grade 12 education or equivalent
Minimum three (3) years of job related experience
Minimum acceptable MECP certification in Wastewater Collection OIT and a Water Distribution Class 1 or Wastewater Collection Level 1 and a Water Distribution OIT preference for progressive advancement to the certification of the subsystem class level
Meter Installers Certificate preferred
Ability to operate and maintain a variety of manual and power equipment
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
Capable of accurately completing work forms and reports
Must have a working knowledge of computers
Must have a working knowledge of applicable regulations as they apply to compliance
Must successfully complete regulatory training and mandatory retraining courses
Physically able to perform requirements of the job
Possess a Class “DZ” license in good standing with preference for “AZ”
