Summary
The Vice President, Strategy & Product is responsible for leading Stored Energy Systems' enterprise strategy, product management, product portfolio governance, and capital allocation disciplines to support profitable growth, market leadership, and long-term value creation.
Reporting directly to the CFO and serving as a strategic partner to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, this role acts as a key architect of the company's strategic direction, growth priorities, product strategy, investment roadmap, and portfolio governance framework.
The VP, Strategy & Product will establish the processes, organizational capabilities, and decision frameworks necessary to scale the business while ensuring resources are deployed toward the highest-value opportunities. This leader will build and institutionalize the company's product management function, integrating voice-of-customer insights, market intelligence, product strategy, portfolio management, and investment prioritization into a cohesive enterprise capability.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, this role will partner closely with Sales, Engineering, Operations, and Finance leaders to drive strategic growth, product innovation, portfolio optimization, and shareholder value creation. The position serves as a trusted advisor to the CEO, CFO, and Executive Leadership Team, helping align strategic priorities, product investments, and resource allocation with the company's long-term vision and value creation objectives.
Responsibilities
Enterprise Strategy & Growth Leadership
- Lead development and execution of the company's 3–5 year strategic plan and long-range growth agenda
- Identify, evaluate, and prioritize new market opportunities, adjacent growth vectors, strategic partnerships, and expansion initiatives
- Direct market assessments, including TAM/SAM analysis, segmentation, competitive positioning, customer trends, and emerging technology evaluation
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO, CFO, and Executive Leadership Team on growth opportunities, market risks, and strategic priorities
- Partner with commercial leadership to translate market intelligence into actionable growth strategies and go-to-market priorities
- Engage directly with key customers, strategic accounts, industry partners, and market influencers to strengthen voice-of-customer integration and market understanding
- Evaluate strategic partnerships, channel opportunities, and inorganic growth opportunities as appropriate
Product Strategy, Portfolio Management & Organizational Development
- Establish and lead the company's product management and enterprise product portfolio management disciplines to support scalable growth and market leadership
- Define the vision, structure, operating model, and governance framework for the product management function
- Build and institutionalize product management capabilities, processes, and accountability across the organization
- Establish clear product ownership, decision rights, and cross-functional accountability across product families and growth initiatives
- Develop and implement an enterprise product portfolio management framework that aligns product investments with strategic priorities and value creation objectives
- Define and institutionalize product lifecycle management processes, including introduction, growth, optimization, harvest, and end-of-life decisions
- Drive product strategy informed by customer needs, market opportunities, competitive dynamics, technology trends, and financial performance
- Develop portfolio performance metrics and economic decision criteria incorporating revenue growth, margin performance, market attractiveness, capital requirements, and strategic fit
- Lead portfolio reviews and investment decisions with executive leadership to ensure resources are deployed toward the highest-value opportunities
- Champion portfolio rationalization, new product investment, and innovation prioritization efforts across the enterprise
- Partner closely with Engineering, Sales, Operations, and Finance to align product strategy, technology roadmaps, commercialization efforts, and resource allocation decisions
- Improve integration of voice-of-customer, market intelligence, and commercial feedback into product strategy and investment decisions
Capital Allocation & Strategic Investment Management
- Partner with Finance and executive leadership to align strategic priorities with enterprise capital allocation decisions
- Establish governance processes for major growth investments, transformation initiatives, and strategic programs
- Define investment milestones, performance metrics, stage-gate reviews, and exit criteria for strategic initiatives
- Evaluate investment opportunities through an enterprise value creation lens, balancing growth, profitability, risk, and resource constraints
- Support acquisition, partnership, and strategic investment evaluations as required
- Ensure enterprise resources are deployed in alignment with strategic priorities and return objectives
Executive Leadership & Board Support
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO, CFO, and Executive Leadership Team on enterprise growth, product strategy, portfolio management, and capital allocation decisions
- Partner with executive leadership to prepare board-level and private equity sponsor materials related to strategy, growth, portfolio performance, and major investment decisions
- Facilitate executive alignment around strategic choices, resource allocation, investment priorities, and business objectives
- Develop executive-level analyses, recommendations, and decision support materials for enterprise initiatives
- Present strategic recommendations, portfolio reviews, and investment cases to senior leadership, board members, and investors as appropriate
Organizational Scale & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Serve as a trusted strategic partner to leaders across Sales, Engineering, Operations, and Finance
- Build scalable management processes that improve enterprise decision quality without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy
- Establish common frameworks, language, and governance processes for strategic planning and product-related decisions
- Drive organizational alignment around growth priorities, strategic initiatives, product investments, and resource allocation decisions
- Influence outcomes across the organization through leadership, credibility, analytical rigor, and data-driven decision making
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; preference for Business, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Strategy, Operations, or related technical disciplines
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in strategy, product management, portfolio management, corporate development, consulting, general management, or related executive leadership roles
- Demonstrated success building and leading product management organizations, portfolio governance processes, and strategic planning disciplines
- Proven experience driving enterprise growth, market expansion, and product investment decisions
- Direct experience supporting hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, or greenfield data center development initiatives is highly desirable, including exposure to power infrastructure planning, backup power systems, energy resilience, or related mission-critical infrastructure investments
- Demonstrated track record of delivering growth, expanding market share, and creating enterprise value
- Experience advising senior leadership teams, boards of directors, and private equity stakeholders on strategic, portfolio, and investment decisions
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to translate customer and market insights into actionable growth strategies
- Deep financial expertise including P&L management, capital allocation, investment analysis, and value creation frameworks
- Solid understanding of enterprise business systems and data environments, including ERP, CRM, and related business applications
- Ability to synthesize complex technical, commercial, and financial inputs into clear executive-level recommendations
- Ability to influence senior leaders and drive alignment across multiple functions without direct authority
- Exceptional executive communication, facilitation, presentation, and leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in mission-critical infrastructure, critical power systems, data center infrastructure, power quality, energy storage, electrification, utility, industrial, or related energy markets
- Experience building or scaling product management organizations within growth-oriented industrial or technology businesses
- Prior experience in private equity-backed businesses or board-governed organizations
- Experience evaluating acquisitions, strategic partnerships, or adjacent market expansion opportunities
- MBA or advanced business, engineering, or technical degree
- Combination of business, financial, and technical leadership experience strongly preferred given the cross-functional nature of the role
- Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change, establish new management disciplines, and drive enterprise-wide alignment
Location: This position is eligible for remote status, with a preference for on-site in Longmont, CO.
Base Compensation: $200,000 - $250,000 is the projected range of annual base salary for this role depending on the candidate’s overall qualifications and experience.
Bonus: This position is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance as well as participation in the company's equity incentive program. This position is also eligible for relocation assistance.
