Summary of Job Duties:
This position provides the services of a Registered Nurse to the operations of UA Little Rock Health Services. This is a full time, benefits eligible position that reports to the Director of Health Services. Clinical practice is governed by the Arkansas Nurse Practice Act under the auspices of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institutional policy.
Qualifications:
Required Education and/or Experience:
Successful completion of an accredited nursing degree program;
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing or current multistate license from a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) member state;
Current CPR certification.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
At least two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an outpatient, primary care clinic;
Experience with college-age populations.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Provide triage assessments, by telephone and in person, and appropriately directs patients to urgent care, same day, future appointments and referrals to off-site services as indicated;
Administer medications & immunizations within scope or practice, as ordered by APRNs and MDs, and in accordance with the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) recommendations and standards;
Provide appropriate and effective health education to patients regarding their health problems, behavioral risk assessment, interventions, and medications;
Document all findings and patient care interventions accurately and legibly and according to professional and legal standards; in Medicat (Electronic Health Record);
Appropriately refer patients to Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), Physicians, and off-site services;
Follow client confidentiality policies and procedures for UA Little Rock Health Services and according to HIPAA guidelines;
Comply with OSHA and clinic protocols regarding infectious disease prevention and control, including proper handling and disposal of infectious waste, gloving and sharps management/disposal, and proper disinfection of exam rooms and equipment;
Maintain and order adequate supplies of medications, vaccines, and general clinic supplies;
Document monthly equipment checks
Maintain and document proper storage of vaccines as per ADH protocols, including completion of daily temperature log for refrigerator and freezer and regular inspection of expiration dates and proper disposal of expired vaccines;
Participate and contribute to the development and implementation of campus health outreach programs;
Perform CLIA waived tests and collect, package, route, and track lab specimens to off-site reference laboratory as directed;
Create policies and compliance logs per CDC regulations;
Deliver lab boxes to designated shipping carrier if needed;
Perform tuberculosis screening and follow-up;
Assist with reviewing students’ immunization records to ensure they meet the University’s requirements;
Participate in regular staff meetings and contribute to progress toward developing and addressing Health Services’ goals and objectives;
Participate and contribute to quality improvement programs for Health Services;
Participate and contribute to staff in-services and educational programs;
Assist receptionist as needed with check-in procedures, making appointments, and answering the telephone;
Mentor/train new RN staff
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of computers and software applications (Microsoft, Internet, e-mail);
Knowledge or ability to learn appropriate use of the Medicat Electronic Health Record system;
Strong communication skills to provide effective education to clients and accurately relate client concerns to consulting professionals;
Strong ability to work with diverse constituencies and persons with disabilities.
