This is a high-impact finance leadership role supporting a large, complex Beef and Pork business with significant revenue and operational scale. You will partner directly with Sales, Operations, and Finance leaders to drive performance, deliver clear and actionable insights, and help shape the strategic direction of Specialty Products. This role offers strong visibility, meaningful influence on business outcomes, and the opportunity to build and lead a high-performing team in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
SCOPE
Beef and pork specialty products – Variety Meats, Fats & Oils, Protein, and Hides & Tanneries (beef only).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational and Business Support
- Monitor plant production and provide ongoing financial visibility into performance across beef and pork operations
- Partner with Sales, Operations, and Accounting to respond to ad-hoc requests and provide actionable insights
- Support Hides & Tanneries and Empirical business activities, including close processes and ongoing financial review
- Build and enhance reporting tools and supporting files to improve efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making
Performance Monitoring and Analysis
- Analyze business performance, identify variances, and investigate root causes to drive informed decision-making
- Review market updates (USDA, Jacobsen) and incorporate external factors into financial outlooks
- Participate in regular P&L and performance review discussions, including Hides & Tanneries and Sales alignment meetings
- Ensure data integrity and completeness across reporting cycles, including Empirical weekly reviews
Financial Planning and Forecasting
- Prepare forecasts and estimates, including Latest Estimate (LE) activities for both beef and pork segments
- Partner with Sales and Operations to align forecasts with current production and market conditions
- Support budgeting processes and provide insights into key financial drivers
- Prepare reporting packages, including MBR and QBR materials, for leadership review
Controllership and Financial Accuracy
- Review journal entries and ensure accuracy and compliance with financial standards
- Conduct balance sheet account reviews and monitor financial controls
- Investigate and explain variances in uncontrollable costs and other financial metrics
- Maintain strong financial discipline and support month-end close processes
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with Specialty Products business to develop financial and non-financial targets that drive performance within the business
- Responsible for developing capital projects in support of the business, on-going monitoring of capital spending and related activities
- Oversee inventory across the supply chain, ensuring the accuracy of on-hand inventory, and optimizing working capital
- Analyze business performance with the ability to identify issues, drive to the root cause(s) and develop the appropriate corrective actions
- Provide timely and accurate inputs for the forecasting activities of the business, leading the annual budgeting and forecasting processes for plant spend
- Build a finance team capable of growing the business profitably and delivering financial support
- Partner with corporate shared service functions to lead business transformation initiatives including roll-out of new systems and processes
- Ensure that the highest controllership standards are maintained including those related to account reconciliation, stewardship of assets and integrity of financial transactions
- Support ad hoc strategic initiatives across the company related to investments, cost optimization, innovation and productivity
TRAVEL
- Year one: visit each plant across beef and pork operations, ideally aligned with sales team visits
- Ongoing: periodic visits to Hides & Tanneries and slaughter floor operations
- 10–15 domestic trips per year
REQUIREMENTS
Experience and Competencies
• 8 plus years finance managerial experience with success building effective teams and leading through teams
• Demonstrated success as a people leader with a strong ability to measure, develop and coach talent
• Experience leading people and processes through a time of significant organizational change
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization
• Excellent problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills, with the ability to think strategically with supporting analytical skills
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced matrixed organization / deadline driven environment
• The ability to identify and champion initiatives that drive operating performance through the organization, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver results
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to function in a fast paced, highly visible, and fast-changing environment
• Detailed knowledge of manufacturing accounting processes including standard cost setting and variance analysis
• Previous meat packing experience a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
• MBA, CPA or CMA a plus but not required.
Preferred System and Application Experience:
• SAP, Anaplan, Power BI
• Expertise with Microsoft Office suite.
