Role Overview:
CHAOS is seeking a Director of Electrical Engineering to build and lead the electrical engineering organization responsible for power, analog, mixed-signal, and digital electronics across RF sensors and avionics systems. You will lead the development of mission-critical hardware from concept and architecture through qualification, production, field deployment, and sustainment.
The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in at least one electrical engineering discipline with sufficient breadth to lead complex, high-reliability electronics development across these disciplines. You will recruit and develop a rapidly growing team, establish engineering standards and operating practices, allocate resources across programs, and ensure the organization delivers technically rigorous hardware on schedule. You will lead from the front, personally addressing critical technical challenges while building the team and technical leadership needed to support continued growth.
This is a full-time, on-site position in El Segundo, CA.
Responsibilities:
Build, lead, and develop a rapidly growing team of power, analog, mixed-signal, and digital electrical engineers
Define the organization’s hiring plan, technical capabilities, engineering standards, and design review practices
Plan staffing, priorities, schedules, and resource allocation across programs
Lead the development of electronic system architectures and associated trade studies to meet performance, SWaP-C, manufacturability, reliability, schedule, and qualification requirements
Provide technical leadership across high-speed digital, analog and mixed-signal electronics, power conversion and distribution, PCB design, signal and power integrity, and EMI/EMC
Resolve complex cross-disciplinary issues involving electrical hardware, FPGA and embedded software interfaces, RF circuits, thermal design, mechanical packaging, manufacturing, and test
Lead hardware integration, verification, qualification, transition to rate production, failure investigation, and field support
Serve as the senior electrical engineering representative to program leadership, customers, suppliers, and manufacturing partners
Remain hands-on and personally contribute to critical architecture, design, integration, and troubleshooting activities as needed
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 15+ years of relevant engineering experience
Experience leading and developing engineering teams responsible for complex, high-reliability electronics
Background developing electronics for aerospace, defense, radar, electronic warfare, missile, space, or similarly demanding applications
Deep expertise in at least one electrical engineering discipline, with sufficient breadth to lead high-speed digital, analog and mixed-signal, and power electronics development
Experience developing complex electronic systems incorporating technologies such as FPGAs, processors, memory, data converters, high-speed interfaces, power conversion, and analog signal chains
Strong knowledge of PCB design, component selection, signal and power integrity, grounding, EMI/EMC, derating, and design for manufacturability
Experience leading hardware from architecture and detailed design through bring-up, integration, qualification, production, and failure investigation
Familiarity with applicable aerospace standards, including MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1275, and RTCA/DO-160
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance
Preferred Requirements:
Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
Experience building or rapidly scaling an electrical engineering team
Experience developing avionics or RF sensor electronics
Experience with signal-integrity or power-integrity analysis tools such as HyperLynx, Sigrity, ADS, Ansys SIwave, or equivalent
Experience with interfaces such as DDR, PCIe, Ethernet, JESD204, SERDES, and LVDS in high-reliability systems
Compensation Components: Competitive base salaries, generous pre-IPO stock option grants, relocation assistance, and (coming soon!) annual bonuses
Team Growth: 350 employees and counting across 5 global offices
$246k-308k
The stated compensation range reflects only the targeted base compensation range and excludes additional earnings such as bonus, equity, and benefits.
