KEY PURPOSES-
1.Ensure that, in terms of teaching, planning and assessment, students have access to a first-class education in the subject(s) being studied
2. Keep up to date with the requirements of internal and public examinations
3. Participate in the school’s performance management programme and matters related to professional development
4. Discipline, health and safety, welfare responsibilities
5. Meetings and communication
6. Participate in administrative and organisational tasks related to the teacher’s daily work and additional tasks deemed necessary from time to time
7. Contribute to the overall life of the school through the participation in co curricular activities and whole school events
SUPPORTING ACTIONS-
1. Interact on a professional level with colleagues, establish and maintain productive relationships with them to promote mutual understanding of the school curriculum with the aim of continually improving the quality of teaching and learning in the school
2. Deliver the highest standards of education in the teacher’s areas of expertise, qualifications and skills
3. Uphold through instruction and example, the highest moral and ethical values including truth, equal opportunity, humanity and respect
4. Teach the students assigned to him/her in a consistently effective and varied manner, according to their educational needs and plan for differentiation considering learning styles and identified strengths and/or weaknesses
5. Ensure regular, consistent and lucid planning and preparation of lessons according to the school’s guidelines
6. Encourage students to achieve beyond levels of expectation
7. Consistently motivate students through excellent and varied methods of delivery and strong interpersonal skills
8. Use ICT and other technologies to enhance the quality of learning and teaching for all students regardless of age and/or level of attainment
9. Actively promote and facilitate both independent and life long learning
10. Facilitate the development of cross-curricular and transferable skills
11. To enrich the curriculum through a range of learning opportunities within and beyond the classroom
12. Set and mark work – in school, at home or elsewhere – according to the Marking Policy
13. Assess work in accordance with school and departmental policy
14. Provide oral and/or written feedback on students’ work including target setting and assessment for learning
15. Mark class attendance registers daily (Primary)
16. Record marks on mark sheets in Planning Files
17. Liaise with the Head of Department/Year Leader to prepare and plan lucid and consistent schemes of work
18. Promote the intellectual, moral, spiritual, cultural, physical and personal abilities and aptitudes of the students in her/his class
19. Providing guidance and advice to students where needed
20. Maintain a well-ordered and stimulating classroom environment
21. Control, monitor and oversee the use and storage of books, equipment or any other materials provided for class usage
22. Report on student progress as required
23. Cooperate with the Year Leader, Head of Department, the Leadership Team and other colleagues in preparing and developing courses of study
24. Prepare students for internal and external assessments
25. Assess and report on students in preparation for external assessments
26. Where necessary, assist in the arrangements for and/or conduct of public examinations/assessments
27. Supervise examinations according to allocated rotas devised by the examinations officer
28. Prepare, mark and record the results of internal assessments according to fair allocations devised by the Head of Department and completed within the designated time frame
29. Identify and devise personal development targets that are in line with the school’s aims and objectives
30. Monitor, review and where necessary, modify methods of teaching and programmes of work
31. Participate in arrangements for further training and professional development
32. Be aware of current developments within the specific subject area(s) and on a whole school basis and develop one’s own pedagogical practice
33. Maintain order and a purposeful atmosphere within and outside of the classroom and all curriculum related matters
34. Utilise appropriate sanctions and communication procedures in the event of misdemeanour
35. Cooperate with colleagues to ensure that fair disciplinary procedures and practices are consistently maintained in all aspects of school life
36. Be aware of factors that may impact upon a student’s ability to fulfil his/her potential
37. Where possible, protect students from any form of harassment, physical, verbal, racial or sexual abuse
38. Maintain the classroom, equipment and other teaching areas in accordance with health and safety guidelines
39. Maintain vigilance to ensure health and safety when on the school premises and when engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere
40. Participate in regular and unscheduled meetings
41. Communicate and co-operate with persons or bodies outside the school as required
42. Report on student progress and development in line with the school’s assessment expectations
43. In addition to scheduled PTCs and reports, arrange individual parent consultations where necessary
44. Supervise and teach any students – regardless of the subject area – whose teacher is unavailable
45. Where possible, give advance notification of absence to the Deputy Principal and submit and/or communicate detailed cover work to the Head of Department/Year Leader
46. Maintain lesson plans, records of marks and any other pertinent documentation in the planning file provided in a well-organised and readily accessible state
47. Ensure that, when required, documentation is accurately completed and punctually submitted
48. Liaise with the CCA Coordinator regarding CCA duties
49. Where appropriate, plan and deliver a high quality co curricular programme based on the taught curriculum or the needs/interests of the students, or the teacher’s personal interests
50. Register students attending the particular CCA activity for which you are responsible
51. Attend regular and unscheduled assemblies and whole school/house events
SUCCESS MEASURES-
- Meet at least once a week with line manager and teacher(s) within the year group/departmental teams to discuss and plan lessons for the week ahead
- Facilitate quality learning opportunities in line with the Learning & Teaching Policy
- Set and mark students’ work according to the policy set by the school
- Keep and update records of the students’ marks
- Give differentiated work to the students tailoring to their abilities
- Plan and prepare appropriately challenging teaching materials for lessons in advance
- Refer to Learning & Teaching Policy
- To maintain high expectations using exemplars, regular formative feedback, target setting and displays
- To be up to date with ICT skills, applying these to the use of technologies within the classroom
- Use one’s own examples to model lifelong learning to students
- Make explicit skills that can be applied in other subject areas so that students make these connections for themselves
- Plan and deliver for learning opportunities beyond the classroom
- Refer to Marking Policy
- Mark class registers in line with legal expectations and close registers at the end of every month
- Record marks on a weekly basis in accordance with the school’s guidelines including, where appropriate, notes of individual needs (whether academic or social) and strategies by which they are addressed
- To ensure that planning is in line with school policy
- This should be reflected in planning documents where appropriate
- Advise on educational and relevant social and other matters
- Ensure that displays of work reflect the ages and ability range of all students taught
- Keep a record of books on loan to students and keep school resources in good condition
- Write formal reports and complete progress monitoring spreadsheet for each student including targets and information for testimonials where required
- Assist in developing: − Teaching materials − Schemes of work − Methods of teaching − Methods of assessment, recording and reporting − Departmental and whole school development plans
- Where required, prepare, mark and report on mock assessments (Secondary)
- Where appropriate, conduct revision sessions before an assessment which may take place after school if required
- Mark and record results of internal assessment within the time frame
- Identify targets and professional development requirements through performance management, observations and other strategies
- Attend in-service training as provided by the school, implementing strategies into your own practice
- Arrange and carry out observations of other classes, not necessarily within the specific subject area(s)
- Engage in personal research
- To do so in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school and maintain vigilance to ensure order beyond the classroom while on duty and in general
- In line with Safeguarding Policy, Behaviour and Pastoral Policy

- Respond to students’ individual concerns, character/behavioural traits, social background, medical conditions or any other factor(s) which could or do impact upon the student’s ability to fulfil his/her potential; and report any such matters to the tutor if previously unknown. Create and maintain a conducive and safe atmosphere for students to learn effectively in the classroom
- Report any suspicions to DPP
- Report any potential hazard or malfunction to the appropriate authorities
- Be aware and follow procedures in the event of accidents
- Act in loco parentis, in accordance with the general guidelines of the school, to provide advice, counselling, immediate aid or response
- Know and identify students who are on medical alert
- To ensure students who have food allergy do not consume food that may trigger allergic reaction.
- To feedback to parents consistently with regard to their children’s concerns, progress and disciplinary issues.
- Attend meetings on curriculum, administration and pastoral issues as required e.g. parents’ evenings, options evenings, staff conferences, PTCs etc.
- Check cover arrangements daily at 07:30hrs
- Notify DPC, Head of Department and/or Year Leader of absence by 06:30hrs
- If absent, set adequate cover work with clear instructions
- Maintain planning file in line with school expectations i.e. current timetable, long, medium- and short-term planning, attendance register, record of marks, EAL/SEN needs, ability groups and medical/dietary information
- To meet deadlines set to expectations
- Plan and deliver a CCA that has continuity and progression of knowledge, skills and understanding where appropriate
- Mark and update students’ register for CCA once a week
- Be present in assemblies when required
