As a Purchasing Specialist you will partner with a Buyer to manage a large portfolio of direct material suppliers. Your focus will be on timely order execution, resolving receiving and invoice discrepancies, supporting escalated customer service issues, and maintaining accurate item and supplier data. This role requires strong communication, negotiation, ERP proficiency, and a action-oriented mindset
This is a Hybrid Position (Monday/Friday Remote)
Key Responsibilities:
Item Creation and Maintenance - Enter new item creation codes into the system, determine if items should be stocked or special order, negotiate order minimums with suppliers.
Resolve Customer Service Issue Escalations - Working with customer service to create standard procedures for common issues and implement within customer service to empower first call resolution and reduce the number of EPOSTs.
Resolve Distribution Center Receiving Discrepancies - Work with DC, supplier, and Buyer to investigate receiving/invoice discrepancies to resolve and eliminate future occurrences.
Expediting Purchase Orders and Managing the Integrity of Supplier PO Promise Dates - Hold suppliers accountable for communicating purchase order fulfillment dates and expediting orders to ensure timely delivery.
Proactively review open orders to identify supply problems (excess inventory and backorders) and negotiate with supplier directly to remedy the issues before they impact the company.
Work closely with Buyer to manage assigned products and suppliers.

This position has the potential for future progression within Matco Tools Supply Chain Organization and other Vontier positions.
Required qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.
Prior supply chain or purchasing experience, ideally supporting direct materials.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (filters, basic formulas, VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH desirable).
Experience with JD Edwards or similar ERP systems.
Strong verbal and written communication and negotiation skills.
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability; attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities with a sense of urgency and ownership.
Preferred qualifications
Experience resolving DC receiving discrepancies and invoice/PO reconciliation.
Familiarity with supplier performance metrics, PO expediting, and inventory management concepts.
Exposure to creating SOPs and driving cross-functional process improvements.

First 6 months — success milestones
Days 1–30: Complete onboarding/immersion plan; assume daily ownership of assigned suppliers, POs, and item maintenance tasks.
Days 31–90: Reduce outstanding discrepancies, demonstrate accurate item setup, and identify at least one supplier/process improvement opportunity.
Days 91–180: Meet role KPIs (PO promise adherence, discrepancy resolution time, invoice accuracy) and implement improvements with measurable impact.
The base compensation range for this position is $55K to $60K per annum. Your actual base salary will be determined based upon numerous factors which may include relevant experience, skills, location (labor market data), credentials (education, certifications), and internal equity.
