The technician is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, and sterilization of reusable surgical instrumentation. They must also maintain inventory, document sterilization parameters, and ensure compliance with infection control and safety policies.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, or one year of experience with UPMC, along with at least six months of healthcare experience. Certification as a Central Service Technician is required within 18 months of hire for PA and NY facilities.

Purpose:
To perform those duties necessary for the proper decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, distribution and documentation of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment according to established procedures. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
