About the Role:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

The role of the Solutions Design Engineer is to lead the innovative operational solution designs from a technical and commercial aspect for both prospective and existing customers. The Solutions Design Engineer will be responsible for utilizing a standard methodology (Program Design System – PDS) to implement designs within Unipart locations across the US. 

The Solutions Design Engineer will demonstrate the values and culture of “The Unipart Way” by adopting lean management principles and approach. 

Responsibilities

  • Understand both prospective and existing customer’s needs and business requirements including but not limited to lay out, labor planning, cost modeling, operational enhancements, risks and issues 
  • Strategize with key stakeholders (Commercial, Operational and Business Development teams) to create customized solutions, establishing a framework for necessary contributions from various departments and facilitate their collaboration 
  • Undertake solution design assignments to include scoping, data requirements, modeling (warehouse and transportation), sensitivity analysis and scenario testing, and user interface design/model testing 
  • Ensure the application of Solution Design best practice and the PDS methodology underpins the delivery of all projects 
  • Work with customer teams and present to senior members of current and/or prospective clients 
  • Deliver projects utilizing project T set-up and definition, budget, risk management, and timeline planning
  • Communicate with stakeholders on project progress, risks and issues, and mitigation
  • Account for possible project challenges or constraints and proactively seek to manage challenges
  • Full responsibility for the accurate assessment of Target Operating Model and implementation costs of each project from a time, quality and cost perspective measured against agreed business requirements. 
  • Provide post-implementation analysis and follow up on solution and recommend changes and enhancements to original solution 
  • Analyze current technologies used within the company and develop steps and processes to improve 
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of market, competitors and innovations 
  • Develop close relationships with the Unipart Logistics Solutions Design and Program Management teams based in the UK
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) or equivalent experience 
  • 3+ years of Solutions Design experience including warehouse modeling and project management 
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of logistics and inbound to manufacturing experience 
  • Previous experience in cost modeling and tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to build credibility with key internal and external stakeholders to impact and influence 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Advanced knowledge of Data Analytical tools 
  • Self-starter with the ability to work both autonomously and within teams
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Excellent planning, organizational skills with strong attention to detail 
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills with a focus on continuous improvement

  • Ability and willingness to be flexible with working hours to meet operating needs of the business

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. No or very limited physical effort required. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat or cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
