Summary:
Increases share of business from agency channel through targeted sales activities. Reviews, screens, analyzes and underwrites all types of personal lines accounts with minimal supervision and within designated authority level. Provides multi-functional underwriting policy servicing and independent decision making. Analyzes complex risks thoroughly and provides suggested outcomes and alternative solutions to write the risk profitably. Effectively communicates with agency partners for acceptance or rejection of risks and requests additional information. Serves as a subject matter expert and resource to staff and assists others as needed.
Duties:
Agency Relations and Marketing
Actively pursues new personal lines business by building and improving relationships with target agents and related personnel through consistent communication and high service levels.
Develops and fosters positive agency relations through regular visits and calls for purposes of marketing, public relations, product development, education, and training.
Assists Agencies with training new agents and CSR’s to write business with Island as requested.
Provides presentations to agencies on New Products and to promote Island Insurance.
Stays current on agent and staff movement and competitor information and reports relevant information to the Underwriting Team.
Possess a positive, service-oriented attitude toward the general agencies, insureds, and employees within the company.
Underwriting and Risk Assessment
Monitors, reviews, and approves new business and renewals for acceptability.
Reviews renewals within authority level. Determines whether risk is profitable and should be renewed.
Assesses and makes decisions on complex risks within designated authority level and serves as agency contact for the acceptance, rejection, continuation, or modification in the underwriting of new business and renewals.
Makes recommendations to agency so a decision can be made for acceptance with modification, continuation of coverages, cancellation, declination, and rejection.
Gathers information and communicates with the agency in writing and verbally for additional information needed to underwrite a risk properly.
Analyzes loss experience reports and/or reviews loss experience on the system and determines necessary underwriting action.
Analyzes risks for loss experience, point(s) charged, amendment to point(s) charged, and determines continuation of coverage or recommendation to non-renew.
Determines proper company placement and proper surcharge points after analyzing abstracts and loss experience.
Recommends company election cancellation requests and non-renewals after analyzing risks.
Approves reinstatements within designated authority level and screens/analyzes endorsement requests referred by Assistant Underwriters.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
Adheres to and complies with underwriting procedures and underwriting authority referral criteria established by the PID Underwriting Manager.
Has thorough knowledge of and maintains Personal Insurance Manuals and Guidelines necessary to perform job functions.
Adheres to pre-set standards of Superior Quality Service.
Remains current on insurance issues, coverages, and other subjects pertaining to job performance.
Mentorship and Support
Serves as a resource and subject matter expert and mentors Assistant Underwriters and Underwriters by providing advice and instruction as needed or requested.
Possess a positive, service-oriented attitude toward the general agencies, insureds, and employees within the company.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; and College degree with credits in insurance related subjects preferred.
1 to 5 years insurance underwriting experience at a carrier or agency level to include agency marketing experience.
Equivalent combination of education and job-related experience will be considered.
Continuing education in insurance and job related issues and subjects required.
