Full job description

The Florida Veterinary Medical Association (FVMA) is seeking a strategic, relationship-driven Director of Membership and Engagement to lead membership growth, retention, and engagement efforts across the organization.

This is a leadership role for someone who understands how to build strong member communities, use data to drive decisions, and create a high-quality member experience from onboarding through renewal and long-term engagement. The Director will play a key role in supporting one of the Association's core revenue streams while strengthening the value and connection members feel with FVMA.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will lead the strategy and day-to-day execution of programs that support membership recruitment, retention, renewal, engagement, and certification operations. You will work closely with internal teams, external partners, volunteer leaders, and professional veterinary groups to ensure members are informed, supported, and connected.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Leading membership growth and retention strategies across member segments
  • Overseeing onboarding, renewal communications, and at-risk member outreach
  • Enhancing the overall member experience and increasing engagement with FVMA programs, benefits, and services
  • Supporting CVT and CVA certification-related membership and continuing education record management
  • Tracking and analyzing membership trends, performance metrics, and retention outcomes
  • Preparing dashboards and reports to support leadership decision-making
  • Partnering across departments to align communications, member services, and organizational priorities
  • Managing relationships with veterinary students, local veterinary medical associations, benefit providers, and other stakeholders
  • Supervising up to two team members and fostering a responsive, service-focused team culture
  • Representing FVMA at meetings, events, conferences, and partner functions as needed

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a professional who brings both strategic thinking and operational follow-through. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, an excellent relationship builder, and someone who can translate data and member feedback into practical action.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • 5+ years of related experience in membership, association management, engagement, customer success, or a similar field
  • Experience working in a membership-based organization, association, or nonprofit preferred
  • Supervisory experience, including coaching and managing staff performance
  • Experience with database management, reporting, and member data analysis
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and web-based systems
  • A member-first mindset with strong judgment, initiative, and attention to detail

Why Join FVMA

This is an opportunity to shape how members experience and connect with a professional association that serves the veterinary community. You'll have the ability to influence strategy, strengthen relationships across the field, and help grow an engaged and thriving membership base.

Benefits

FVMA offers a competitive benefits package, including:

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with 5% employer match after one year
  • Paid time off
  • 12 paid holidays
  • Wellness resources
  • Life and long-term disability insurance

Working Conditions

This role is primarily office-based and involves regular computer use, frequent communication with members and partners, occasional lifting of materials up to 20 pounds, and occasional travel for events and meetings.
