Description

Build Your Future with The Raymond Group: An Extraordinary Career Awaits!

The Raymond Group has been building the future for 90 years.  We started as one of Southern California’s original lath and plaster companies and have become one of the wall and ceiling industry's leading full service, design-assist, specialty finish and theming contractors. From the first planned residential communities in the country to iconic buildings in Hawaii, Connecticut, and Hong Kong, we continue to build on a legacy of excellence.

Our passion is as strong today as it was nearly a century ago – not just for building unique and exciting projects but supporting the growth and development of our team. We have cultivated a collaborative, family-oriented work environment where every employee can thrive and achieve work life balance. Our core values – respect, integrity, trust, and teamwork – are the foundation of our culture.

Why settle for ordinary … when you can work for an extraordinary company? Launch your future with Raymond and be a vital part of an award-winning organization that is committed to building communities, not just buildings.

JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Project Engineer to join our work community in San Diego. In this full-time, exempt role, you will provide project administration and operational support for assigned commercial construction projects, ensuring the accurate processing of contract documentation and project controls.  This position tracks schedules, coordinates material submittals, and logs field metrics to support job profitability goals.

Responsibilities

  • Project Documents: Track and update critical project logs, blueprints, and files every day to keep our office and jobsite teams completely aligned.
  • Tracking Paperwork: Administer and route all project requests, design adjustments, and material approvals cleanly between our project team and the client.
  • Double-Check Plans: Check all incoming work files, structural blueprints, and technical sheets side-by-side to catch and report any mistakes or mismatches early.
  • Material Tracking: Create material order lists and plan jobsite storage logistics so our field crews get what they need exactly when they need it.
  • Timeline Analysis: Analyze daily field production logs to monitor our progress and catch any project schedule delays early.
  • Vendor Pricing: Review and compare quotes from different material suppliers side-by-side to make sure we are getting the best overall value.
  • Safety Audits: Gather jobsite quality reports and field safety data to help our field crews fix basic compliance issues on site.
  • Project Wrap-Up: Compile and verify all final warranties, operations manuals, and completion paperwork to ensure projects close out smoothly.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with our project managers, estimators, and field leaders every day to support our overall team goals.

What We Offer

  • Invest in Your Future: Competitive compensation, 401(k) savings plan, and a rewarding profit-sharing program.
  • Grow With Us: We champion continuous learning with a robust tuition reimbursement program and structured career advancement paths. We don’t just hire for the job you have today; we care about the professional you’ll become tomorrow, helping you achieve your career goals by planning out your next steps with us.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Full suite of insurance (medical, dental, vision), company-paid life insurance, AD&D, long-term disability and a Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
  • Time to Recharge: Generous paid time off policy, including vacation time, sick leave, and company-paid holidays.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • Qualifications: High school diploma or a GED with a minimum of two years of commercial field experience in the wall and ceiling industry OR a bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related technical field of study.
  • Software Skills: Comfortable and skilled at Microsoft Word and Excel for daily tracking tasks.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with commercial building methods, construction rules, and basis project tracking systems like scheduling and cost tracking.
  • Blueprint Reading: Past experience reading and understanding architectural plans, blueprints, structural drawings, and project specifications.
  • Software Knowledge: Experience using common industry software tools like Bluebeam, PlanGrid, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Quick Bid, or BuzzBID.
  • Area Familiarity: Knowing the local construction community is a big plus.
