This position leads the Facilities team, oversees preventive and corrective maintenance, supports capital projects, manages outside contractors, and ensures that all work is completed in a manner consistent with The Lake House on Canandaigua’s luxury service standards. The Facilities Manager also oversees the property’s loss prevention program and serves as an active member of the Beyond Green Committee.

Essential Functions:

Department Leadership and Administration

  • Lead, schedule, train, coach, and develop Facilities Department personnel.
  • Plan departmental staffing and work schedules to support business levels, guest needs, events, and emergency coverage.
  • Assign and prioritize work orders, preventive maintenance tasks, inspections, and projects throughout the property.
  • Maintain accurate records for work orders, equipment repairs, inspections, warranties, service agreements, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Manage departmental expenses, purchasing, inventories, and vendor relationships within approved budget guidelines.
  • Provide regular updates to the Hotel Manager and General Manager regarding outstanding repairs, safety concerns, capital needs, and operational risks.
  • Attend leadership meetings and coordinate work activities with department heads to minimize disruption to guests and hotel operations.

Facilities, Engineering, and Asset Management

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, life-safety, kitchen, laundry, pool and spa, and other critical building systems.
  • Manage the property-wide preventive maintenance program, including guest rooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, equipment, furnishings, fixtures, and finishes.
  • Perform routine property inspections and ensure identified deficiencies are documented, assigned, corrected, and verified.
  • Respond to guest room and public-area maintenance needs and assist the team with repairs when operationally necessary.
  • Oversee required water testing, recordkeeping, equipment checks, and filtration-system operation for the swimming pool and hot tubs in accordance with applicable health standards.
  • Coordinate and supervise outside contractors, service providers, inspections, and project work; verify scope, quality, safety, and completion.
  • Assist with capital planning, project budgeting, renovation work, equipment replacement, and long-term asset preservation.
  • Develop and implement operational plans for severe weather, utility interruptions, equipment failures, and other facility-related emergencies.
  • Support property grounds, seasonal preparation, event setup, holiday decorating, and other operational needs as required.

Loss Prevention, Safety, and Regulatory Compliance

  • Oversee the property’s loss prevention program in coordination with hotel leadership, including the protection of guests, employees, physical assets, and hotel property.
  • Conduct and document routine safety, security, and life-safety inspections; promptly address hazards and escalate significant concerns.
  • Oversee the proper operation, inspection, testing, and service coordination of fire protection, alarm, emergency lighting, access control, surveillance, and related systems.
  • Coordinate incident-prevention practices, emergency preparedness, key and access-control procedures, and response protocols with department leaders.
  • Assist with the review and documentation of accidents, property damage, security incidents, and other loss events, while maintaining confidentiality and following established reporting procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA requirements, fire and building codes, health department standards, environmental requirements, and other governmental regulations.
  • Promote safe work practices, required personal protective equipment, proper chemical handling, lockout/tagout procedures, and contractor safety standards.

Sustainability and Beyond Green

  • Serve as an active member of The Lake House Beyond Green Committee and participate in meetings, action planning, reporting, and property sustainability initiatives.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to reduce energy and water consumption, improve equipment efficiency, extend asset life, and reduce waste without compromising guest comfort or service quality.
  • Track facility-related sustainability measures and support the property’s environmental goals, certifications, and guest and employee education efforts.
  • Partner with other departments on responsible purchasing, waste diversion, recycling, composting, utility management, and environmentally preferable operating practices.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Prior facilities, engineering, maintenance, or building-operations leadership experience; hospitality or resort experience is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of commercial HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, pool and spa, life-safety, and building systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team, prioritize multiple assignments, manage vendors, and communicate effectively with guests, employees, contractors, and leadership.
  • Ability to use work-order, preventive-maintenance, building-management, and standard office software.
  • Appropriate technical licenses or certifications are preferred; required certifications must be maintained when applicable.
  • Must be available for day and evening shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency response as business needs require.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform the physical duties associated with inspections, repairs, equipment access, ladders, stairs, and indoor and outdoor work.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Hotel Manager or General Manager.
