The CFO leads financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, compliance, internal controls, audit readiness, investment oversight, long-range planning, and financing strategies for capital needs. The CFO also supervises the Accounting Manager and provides executive oversight for the Vice President of Operations, facilities, fleet, information technology, and capital planning. This role helps translate The Arc’s strategic plan into disciplined operating plans, sustainable financial models, and practical systems that strengthen services for people with disabilities. This is a hybrid position based in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, with a minimum of two days per week in the office and flexibility for up to three days of remote work when operational needs allow.

 Job Responsibilities:

· Serve as a strategic partner to the President & CEO in planning, implementing, and monitoring the organization’s strategic plan.

· Lead financial strategy, annual and multi-year budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, reporting, scenario planning, and long-range financial planning.

· Provide clear financial analysis and recommendations to the President & CEO, executive leadership team, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, Investment Committee, and Audit Committee.

· Lead and staff the Board’s Finance Committee and Investment Committee, including agendas, materials, reporting, investment oversight, and follow-up.

· Oversee accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grants and contracts, billing, audit preparation, tax filings, insurance, banking, and financial compliance.

· Supervise and develop the Accounting Manager, ensuring strong day-to-day financial operations, timely reporting, effective controls, and clear accountability.

· Monitor and strengthen internal controls, financial policies, business processes, risk management practices, and reporting systems as needed.

· Provide executive oversight for the Vice President of Operations and ensure coordination across operations, facilities, fleet, IT, capital planning, and new home development.

· Arrange and manage short-term and long-term financing for capital expenditures, including facilities, fleet, technology, and other major organizational investments.

· Partner with program and operational leaders to align resources with mission, service quality, compliance requirements, workforce needs, and strategic priorities.

· Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and service excellence consistent with The Way of The Arc.

Qualifications:

· Mission fit: Commitment to supporting people with disabilities and advancing high-quality, person-centered services.

· Experience: Minimum of five years in a senior finance role within healthcare, human services, disability services, nonprofit finance, government-funded programs, or a related field.

· Relevant or transferable skills: Direct experience in a regulated service environment is preferred, but strong transferable finance and operational leadership skills will be considered.

· Core finance expertise: Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, reporting, audit preparation, compliance, internal controls, cash flow, and long-range planning.

· Leadership and communication: Experience supervising finance staff and presenting financial information to senior leaders, boards, and board committees.

· Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field required. CPA or MBA strongly preferred.

Core Competencies:

· Strategic execution: Turns priorities into clear plans, financial models, dashboards, timelines, and measurable results.

· Operational partnership: Connects finance with operations, facilities, fleet, IT, capital planning, and service quality.

· Change leadership: Strengthens systems, develop people, improve processes, and leads through growth, transition, and organizational change.

· Collaborative leadership: Builds trust across departments and promotes shared accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Work Arrangement:

The CFO is expected to work a minimum of two days per week in the office, with flexibility for up to three days of remote work when operational needs allow.
