POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a rotational molding shop. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for production scheduling, employee supervision, inventory management, quality control, workplace safety, and continuous improvement. The Production Manager works alongside the team to ensure products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and to meet quality standards while meeting ongoing delivery requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Management
Coordinate and supervise daily production activities to meet schedule and delivery commitments.
Assign work and manage labor resources to optimize productivity and efficiency.
Participate in production operations as required, including mold preparation, machine operation, trimming, assembly, packaging, and shipping.
Monitor workflow and address production issues to minimize downtime.
Ensure production targets, quality standards, and customer requirements are achieved.
Team Supervision
Direct and support a team of approximately 6-10 production employees.
Develop and maintain employee work schedules.
Train employees on equipment, processes, safety requirements, and quality standards.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, disciplinary actions, and employee separations.
Promote a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment.
Inventory and Materials Management
Monitor inventory usage and initiate purchasing requests as needed.
Conduct regular inventory counts and maintain accurate inventory records.
Coordinate material availability to support production schedules.
Reduce waste through effective inventory management and control practices.
Logistics
Coordinate with logistics department the inbound and outbound deliveries.
Quality Control
Administer and continuously improve the company's quality control program.
Perform and document product inspections throughout the manufacturing process.
Investigate quality issues and implement corrective actions.
Monitor scrap, rework, and defect trends.
Ensure products consistently meet specifications and company standards.
Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain production, inventory, labor, and quality records.
Update and manage spreadsheets and operational reports.
Track performance indicators.
Assist with production planning and operational forecasting.
Safety and Compliance
Enforce company safety policies and procedures.
Conduct routine safety inspections and employee safety training.
Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and company standards.
Report and investigate workplace incidents and near misses.
Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
QualificationsQualifications
Required
2+ years of manufacturing, production, or industrial supervisory experience.
Strong leadership and team development skills.
Experience with production scheduling and inventory management.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and business software.
Ability to read and follow production specifications and work instructions.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to perform physical work and lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
Physical Demands
The employee may be required to stoop, bend, kneel, twist, and squat
The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
Must be able to speak and hear well enough to communicate with co-workers.
Must be able to use hands for repetitive simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation
Preferred
Experience in rotational molding, plastics manufacturing, or related industrial processes.
Experience implementing or managing quality control systems.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
