The Labourer supports Heavy Equipment Technicians and Welders with maintenance, repair, and assembly activities in both shop and field environments. Responsibilities include equipment preparation, parts handling, site mobilization, and maintaining a safe, organized work area.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid class 5 driver's license. A strong mechanical aptitude, a positive attitude, and a commitment to safety are essential for this role.
In this role, the Labourer supports field and shop maintenance, repair, assembly, and project activities for mining equipment and associated work scopes. This position plays a key support role to Heavy Equipment Technicians, Apprentices, Welders, and Supervisors while developing foundational mechanical skills in a mining environment. This role is intended for individuals interested in pursuing a Heavy Equipment Technician apprenticeship and building a long-term career with SMS Equipment
Base Wage: $30.27 per hour. Additional premiums apply.
Location: Acheson, AB.
Schedule: 7x7 (day shift primarily: night shift may occasionally be required)
Work Environment
This role may involve working closely with the same crew for extended periods including full shifts, travel days, meals, and time in camp. Successful candidates will be coachable, adaptable, eager to learn, and able to quickly become part of the strong team culture.
This position is classified as an Individual Contributor role in SMS Equipment’s competency framework, requiring demonstration of core competencies (customer focus, collaboration, and technical/functional expertise).
