We are seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to function as a Project Manager, designing large-scale cooling systems, including selecting equipment, performing calculations, and coordinating with clients and other engineers.
Project Management: Oversee the entire project lifecycle, ensuring seamless communication and successful outcomes.
Technical Design: Perform cooling and heat load calculations; Design, analyze, inspect, perform field testing, and troubleshoot engineered systems for central energy plants
Coordination: Collaborate with clients, architects, electrical engineers, and contractors to ensure seamless integration, ensuring all project requirements are met.
Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure designs adhere to Smith Engineering standards complying with building codes and standards; Assist in the production of construction documents, including specifications.
Client Relations: Build and maintain strong client relationships through direct communication and by presenting design options and progress reports.
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline followed by 6+ years of experience working with HVAC projects including central plants
Ability to navigate a mechanical room and perform field surveys of piping systems
Experience performing Basic Engineering calculations along with AutoCAD; 3D modeling software preferred
Working knowledge of DOB now and NYC Department of Buildings processes and requirements
Experience assisting with construction administration and project management
Outstanding communication skills, verbal and written, along with troubleshooting and problem solving-skills
Technical expertise in basic building systems knowledge
Must be located within 50 miles of New York City.

Our manufacturing arm designs and builds treatment equipment with the precise requirements of our customer in mind. We offer no standard product line; our finished products are the result of process and purity requirements determined by our customer and our extensive knowledge of water purity requirements particular to given applications/industries. Medical Device, Biomedical and Microelectronics are key markets. Our service division is made up of veteran field technicians that average over 15 years of employment with the company. We offer on call and contracted service and are available to support your maintenance/repair requirements 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Additionally, our route DI service represents a substantial portion of our service capability. Our in house regeneration plant allows us to quickly respond to all service requirements and provide ½ day service in most cases. Distributed Products have become a strength for Smith Engineering. Process Filtration and Piping, Instrumentation, Flow Control and Instrumentation, as well as Ultraviolet Technology make up only a portion of our distributed product offering. Most products are stocked in our Chaska, MN warehouse and available for same day shipping.
