Description

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides educationally related speech and language services to students with communication disorders that impact their educational progress. This role involves screening, assessing, and diagnosing speech, language, voice, fluency, and hearing disorders; developing and implementing therapy plans; monitoring student progress; and collaborating with educators, families, and the IEP team to support student success. The SLP ensures that students receive targeted interventions to maximize functional educational outcomes and achieve IEP goals.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Part-time, Non-exempt
  • 30 hours/week

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology from an accredited institution approved by the Colorado Department of Education
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) in Speech Language Pathology
  • Colorado Department of Education Special Service Provider License or endorsement in 0-21 Speech Language Pathology
  • Criminal background check clearance
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license
  • Experience in a school setting preferred (2+ years recommended)
  • Knowledge of speech and language assessments, interventions, and educational best practices
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Patience, empathy, and commitment to supporting students’ development

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide nondiscriminatory diagnostic assessments of speech, language, hearing, voice, and fluency disorders.
  • Design, implement, and support therapy programming needed to maximize functional educational outcomes.
  • Provide direct and indirect services within the student’s educational setting based on established IEP goals and objectives.
  • Serve students from kindergarten through 8th grade in various settings, including partial to full inclusion.
  • Plan, develop, maintain, and review Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students receiving speech and language services.
  • Participate in the multidisciplinary team process regarding eligibility issues, IEP development, consultation, and service delivery models.
  • Establish and maintain confidential records of screenings, evaluations, and therapy progress.
  • Act as service case manager for all speech-related IEPs and prepare reports for the Learning Services Coordinator.
  • Provide consultation to regular and special education staff, Response to Intervention teams, support staff, parents, and other agencies regarding programming for students with communication needs.
  • Participate in staff development activities, mandatory meetings, and professional development workshops.
  • Attend conferences and trainings regarding communication remediation techniques.
  • Inform families of students with disabilities about outside agencies, specialists, and resources when appropriate.
  • Advocate for students’ needs and ensure student rights under IDEA.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all records and information.
  • Initiate contact with parents and serve as a liaison for student progress and services.
  • Keep current on federal and state special education laws, procedures, and district policies.
  • Perform other duties as required, including school supervision duties when applicable.

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently
  • Mental functions include communicating, analyzing, coordinating, instructing, evaluating, and using interpersonal skills
  • Exposure to routine classroom environments with potential for sensory stimuli
