Lead and shape resolution frameworks and processes for deposit takers, insurers and financial market infrastructures while mentoring others in a key technical leadership role.

  • Permanent role based in Wellington or Auckland

  • Central location with a flexible, hybrid working environment

  • 5 weeks annual leave plus 15 wellness days

Te tūranga – The role

Join the Resolution team within the Enforcement and Resolution Directorate of the Financial Stability Group. The Resolution team is responsible for developing frameworks and processes for managing the failure of an insurer, deposit taker (i.e. bank, credit union, building society or finance company) or financial market infrastructures (e.g. payment and settlement systems). The Resolution team is also responsible for managing the response to live cases of entity distress, where necessary.

As a Senior Advisor, you will contribute to the leadership of the Resolution team and lead the delivery of complex resolution frameworks and projects, and provide expert, influential advice to senior decision‑makers. This Senior Advisor role will have a particular focus on insurance resolution matters, so relevant experience with the insurance sector is a bonus.

You will be a resolution expert and engage with fellow technical specialists and manage key stakeholder relationships, while mentoring others and strengthening capability and delivery across the directorate. In this role you will:

  • Lead end‑to‑end delivery of complex operational, regulatory, and legislative projects.

  • Prepare high‑quality written analysis, papers, and recommendations for senior review.

  • Provide expert advice to the Board, Ministers, Committees, and senior leaders.

  • Lead industry and external stakeholder engagement on resolution initiatives.

  • Coach and mentor team members, managing workflow and ensuring quality outputs.

  • Work with the team manager to support leading the work of the team.

  • Collaborate across the Financial Stability Group and lead cross‑Bank initiatives.

  • Maintain expert knowledge of prudential requirements and regulatory developments.

Ō pūkenga – About you

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • 15+ years’ professional experience in public policy, regulation, financial services, or a related field.

  • Degree in economics, finance, law, accounting or a related discipline.

  • Deep understanding of the economy, financial system, and prudential policy settings.

  • Proven track record leading and delivering complex relevant projects.

  • Exceptional analytical capability, sound judgement, and ability to work in novel or ambiguous areas.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with experience influencing senior stakeholders and coaching or mentoring others.

  • Sound judgement, holistic thinking, and ability to identify and find practical solutions to relevant issues.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of NZ National Security Clearance.
