The Skills Instructor/Personal Assistant provides direct supervision, training, and personal care to developmentally disabled clients in both facility and community settings. Responsibilities include implementing Individual Service Plans (ISP), maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all clients.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to obtain a Class C Commercial Driver’s License. Applicants must pass a fingerprint clearance, drug test, and TB test, and possess or be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.

General Purpose:
We are recruiting for a creative individual to work with our developmentally disabled clients for our Skills Instructor/Personal Assistant Position. This position is responsible for direct supervision and training of client/consumers throughout the facility and in the community who receive support from various People Services Inc., Programs. People Services’ clients are people with developmental disabilities. The Skills Instructor/Personal Assistant will on some days will be scheduled to perform the duties of Skills Instructor and on other days will be scheduled to perform the duties of a Personal Assistant, as needed by the organization.
Skills Instructors will provide support which is consistent with Person Centered Planning and Positive Supports Plans. The goal of training will be to assist client/consumers in achieving both their short and long-term goals. The Skills Instructor will assure that all training for the client/consumers is of the highest quality and consistent with all applicable regulations and standards.
The Skills Instructor/Personal Assistant will also demonstrate positive, caring relationships with all client/consumers and their significant others. Significant others include but may not be limited to family, care providers, friends of client/consumers and any other professional or lay person within the circle of influence of the client/consumer.
Personal Assistants will provide assistance to client/consumers in meeting their basic care needs while at day program. Assistance may be provided by the Personal Assistant in the community as well as in the facility. The duties will include but not limited to ambulation to and from classes, feeding, bathing, dressing, toileting and age/ability appropriate leisure activities as needed.
Skills Instructor Essential Job Duties:
Maintaining communications with client/consumers and significant others as necessary.
Consistent communications with Program Director and Site Coordinator.
Maintains consistent communication with all program Leadership in all programs assigned to.
The implementation of the CALS assessment tool and or any other assessment tools assigned.
Preparation and monitoring of ISP per assigned client. This includes training; coverage; daily/monthly data collection.
Writing and developing the ISP smart goals, plans and criteria.
Writing all report generation related to ISP documentation.
Maintains all; daily logs, contact logs and progress notes.
Task analysis review, interpretation and effectiveness.
Participation in all client/consumer related meetings (ISP, clinical review, behavioral, etc.) as requested.
Participation in all division related meetings and training’s (inservices, safety, etc.)
Direct supervision of clients/workers as necessary.
Maintain safe work and learning environments for clients/workers and staff, communicate health and wellbeing to appropriate staff.
Maintain all safety responsibilities for any program assigned to, while working as substitute.
Will maintain all regulations and procedures in regards to pandemics.
Assess training effectiveness in achieving smart goals.
Assist in identifying barriers and how they will be overcome.
Assist in the development and revision of client/consumer training.
Keep Program Director/ Site Coordinator informed of client/consumer needs, desires and progress and recommendations as necessary.
Maintain communication with all volunteer contacts.
Keep Site Coordinator and Program Director informed of all staff needs, recommendations, etc.
Assist with all training needs related to the consumers chosen tasks and skills development.
Implement all training and positive support plans.
Implementation of safe and humane strategies when managing client/consumers in crisis in a manner consistent with Pro-Act principles.
Assist fragile ambulatory client/consumers as needed.
Administer medications as prescribed in accordance with DDS, Licensing regulations, pursuant to policies in practices of each program.
Administer first aid to client/consumers as needed.
Supervise and implement training that is consistent with Person Centered Planning.
Participate in providing personal assistance to clients (such as feeding, lifting, bathroom, etc.)
Willing to work as a team member.
Participate in all trainings in all assigned programs.
Provide safe transportation of client/consumers throughout the program day.
Maintain infection control protocols, practices and procedures in accordance with DDS, Licensing regulations, pursuant to policies in practices of each program.
Maintain the integrity of the daily schedule.
Maintain the dignity and respect of the clients we serve.
Maintain all equipment, tools and supplies necessary for the job.
Able to lift, bend, twist, climb stairs as necessary.
Additional responsibilities as necessary.
Personal Assistant Essential Job Duties:
Preparation and monitoring of ISP per assigned client. This includes training; coverage; daily/monthly data collection.
Provide appropriate care to developmentally disabled individuals in a positive and professional manner; including feeding, dressing, bathing and leisure activities, or other non-medical care services.
Ensure safety of the client while in the worker’s care.
Maintain confidentiality regarding the client and his/her family.
Maintain high level of personal hygiene and hygiene of client during hours of care. Prevent exposure of client to communicable diseases or hazardous conditions.
Maintain and submit accurate Program paperwork in a timely fashion.
Attend periodic in-service training of approved curriculum.
Maintain a professional image that promotes the program service as a valued support resource.
Respect established lines of communication and authority; cooperate with program and other agency staff in all areas of work.
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Be at least eighteen (18) years of age. (Subject to discretion of Program Director. No one under the age of 16 can be hired. Work Permits are required and the responsibility of staff ages 16-18).
Fingerprint clearance
Negative results to drug testing
Adherence to drug testing policy
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to acquire Class C Commercial Driver’s License with endorsements
CPR, First Aid Certification or willingness to go through our in-house training program
Negative TB test
Minimum of 18 years of age
