The Estimator is responsible for gathering and evaluating proposals, drawings, and specifications to prepare accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment. They must coordinate with sub-contractors and vendors while ensuring bid submissions are completed in a timely and professional manner.
Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree or college diploma in civil engineering or a related field and possess at least 3 years of estimating experience. Proficiency in reading technical drawings and experience with estimating software such as Excel or Tekla are required.
Established in 1963, Strescon Limited has grown to become the largest precast, pre-stressed concrete manufacturer in Eastern Canada. Its primary market covers the Atlantic Provinces, the New England region of the United States, and Bermuda. Strescon manufactures a wide range of both architectural and structural precast/prestressed concrete products including bridge girders, wall panels, complete parking garages, hollow-core planking, piling and deck slabs. Strescon presently has two facilities: 70,000 sq. ft. in Saint John, New Brunswick and 50,000 sq. ft. In Bedford, Nova Scotia.
In addition to our engineered precast facilities for custom components, Strescon also operates a 32,000 sq. ft. facility in Saint John which manufactures standard concrete products for engineered drainage systems, such as pipe, manholes and catch basins.
In partnership with the estimating team and in collaboration with various departments, the Estimator position is responsible for gathering and evaluating proposals, shop drawings, specifications (excel, Tekla, etc.), and related documents to prepare estimates. The Estimator computes costs by analyzing labor, materials, equipment, subcontracted work as well as timeline requirements. As the Estimator, the ideal candidate must be able to read architectural, structural, precast shop drawings, specifications, navigate software, be detailed, and focused on the task at hand while managing priorities and deadlines. In general, this is a position where guidelines, structure, and established procedures must be followed closely. The position is located at the Saint John office and supports operations in both Saint John and Bedford.
