Full job description
Title: Facilities Technician / Site Maintenance Operative
Location: Wolverhampton, WV4 6FB (On-site, 5 days per week)
Job type: Permanent, full-time
Salary: £30,000 – £40,000 per annum + benefits
Keep the place that keeps the world safe running beautifully
This is a fantastic opportunity to join Fortress Safety as a Facilities Maintenance Technician and become the person who keeps our Wolverhampton HQ safe, clean, compliant and running like clockwork. If you love variety, take genuine pride in a job well done, and enjoy being the go-to person everyone relies on, you'll thrive here.
It's a hands-on, people-facing role that blends practical maintenance with smart coordination. No two days are the same — one moment you're carrying out safety checks and PAT testing, the next you're setting up for an important meeting, solving a maintenance issue, or working with contractors to keep everything ship-shape. Your work will directly shape the environment where our teams design products that protect people all over the world.
What you'll be doing
Carry out regular PAT testing on electrical equipment, keeping accurate records and arranging repairs or replacements
Conduct daily building inspections and tackle minor maintenance — lighting, basic plumbing and general wear and tear
Manage waste and recycling, including coordinating commercial collections and correct waste segregation
Keep common areas, washrooms and welfare facilities clean, stocked and welcoming, liaising with cleaning contractors
Support health and safety compliance — routine safety checks, fire safety equipment, emergency lighting and first aid provisions
Coordinate external contractors for specialist work, obtaining quotes and supervising jobs with minimal disruption
Handle space management — setting up meeting rooms, furniture moves and office layout changes
Respond to staff requests, prioritising and resolving issues efficiently
Support site security, making sure gates, doors and windows are secure
Champion environmental initiatives by monitoring utility usage and reducing waste
Maintain accurate compliance documentation for audits and inspections
What you'll bring
NVQ Level 2/3 in Facilities Management, Building Maintenance or an equivalent practical qualification
PAT testing certification (City & Guilds 2377 or equivalent)
Basic health and safety awareness training
1–3 years' experience in a facilities, maintenance or building services role
A full driving licence
Practical maintenance skills across basic electrical, plumbing and carpentry
Strong organisation, clear communication and good computer literacy for record-keeping
Physical fitness for manual tasks including lifting, climbing ladders and time on your feet
A flexible, hands-on approach and a real willingness to tackle varied tasks
Nice to have
IOSH Working Safely or a similar health and safety qualification
Experience in a manufacturing environment
Basic understanding of building services (HVAC, electrical, plumbing)
A first aid qualification
What we offer
Salary of £30,000 – £40,000 per year
25 days holiday plus bank holidays
Pension with employer contribution up to 10.5%
Company bonus scheme
Annual Halma share vesting scheme
Life assurance cover
Cycle to work scheme and airport parking discounts
Eyecare support
Long service recognition

We partner with customers to achieve ambitious goals, leveraging the power of light for advancement in health, safety and the environment.
OUR HISTORY
Ocean Optics started in the late ‘80s, seeded by a federal grant for a marine pH sensor. As part of their work, the Ocean team needed a compact spectrometer to fit into a small, underwater housing, and were surprised to discover none existed. So, they made their own. Founder Mike Morris started the evolution of spectrometers from floor unit-sized to handheld.
By 1992, the “world’s first miniature spectrometer” ushered in a new way of utilizing spectroscopy.
Today, our technologies have evolved, our offering has expanded, and our customers remain vital partners.
