The Operator Assistant is responsible for inspecting product quality, size, and gauge prior to shipment while ensuring accurate packaging and data collection. They also perform basic machinery adjustments and maintain strict adherence to GMP and food safety policies.
A high school diploma or GED is preferred, and while no prior experience is required, previous manufacturing experience is a plus. Candidates must possess basic math skills, the ability to read a tape measure, and pass a color-blind test.

To ensure that product is being inspected for quality including, size, gauge and roll formation quality prior to shipment to customer. Accurate packaging and data collection for each order. Each employee considers food safety and consumer safety while preforming work. Participates in GMP and food safety training. Follows GMP policy. Reports all food safety concerns with urgency.

FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the Lead Operator and/or Production Supervisor, the Extrusion Operator Assistant will ensure that product is being inspected prior to shipment to customers. This position is backed up by other Operator Assistants or by a Lead Operator.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
QUALITY CONTROL:
Company policies, procedures, and practices are implemented via this position. Quality of products is directly related to the effectiveness of individuals in this job. A broad base of current technical knowledge is required to ensure that standards are met, and efficiencies are maintained. Problem solving and decision-making abilities are essential for success.
HS Diploma or GED is preferred
Required Knowledge:
- Previous manufacturing experience preferred
- None, on the job training is provided
- Quality of product shipped
Employees are expected to work 12-hour shifts that are on a monthly rotation schedule. The shifts are currently from 7 AM - 7 PM (day shift), and 7 PM - 7 AM (night shift). Every 28 days these rotate between days and nights.
This is an hourly/non-exempt position. Overtime regulations do apply. Holidays, sick leave, vacation, etc. as dictated by the Shields employee handbook.
