Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the EEG Coordinator or designee, the Neurodiagnostic Assistant is an internal on the job training position. This position assists with patient preparation, equipment setup, and monitoring EEG data to ensure accurate recordings and patient well-being in both routine and continuous EEG settings. NDAs will act as first responders, working alongside credentialed Neurodiagnostic Technologists (R. EEG T. or CLTM) to ensure patient safety and effective care. NDAs continuously monitor patients undergoing cEEG recording for safety, either in room or via remote video monitoring. NDAs possesses knowledge of monitoring system and camera controls. Alerts nursing and/or technologist staff when clinical seizures or other paroxysmal events occur. May communicate with patients and bedside staff to obtain information about events. May document observations. The Neurodiagnostic Assistant (NDA) is not qualified to analyze EEG data. May assist Neurodiagnostic technologists as needed (restocking supplies, electrode removal and disinfection etc.). Completes hospital training to alert supervisor and/or activate hospital systems such as rapid response, cardiac arrest, etc. per established protocols when encountering patient clinical issues.
Additional Job Description
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion or enrollment in an accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology (NDT) or completion of LTM 100 Introduction to LTM for EMU Personnel. No previous experience. Will be trained in-house with 20 clinical observation hours and successful completion of didactic course (LTM 100) and competency assessments including but not limited to recognition of clinical seizures and other clinical paroxysmal events, ictal testing procedures, measures to reduce risk of fall, and seizure first aid.
All Neurodiagnostic Assistant (NDA) positions are required to enroll in an accredited program within six months of hire unless they qualify for an EEG Technician I without an accredited program as outlined by ABRET pathways to achieving Registry in EEG.
Certification in Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain a Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required. ABRET EEG registry eligibility or intent to pursue certification within two years is required.
