Deputy Director, Finance Business Partnering
Lead with insight. Influence with purpose. Shape better outcomes across Victoria’s largest public health service.
At Monash Health, finance is more than numbers. It is about enabling better decisions, stronger services and sustainable outcomes for the communities we serve.
We are seeking an exceptional Deputy Director, Finance Business Partnering to join our senior Finance leadership team and help shape the future of strategic finance partnering across Monash Health.
This is an opportunity for an experienced finance leader who can move confidently between strategy and execution, data and insight, challenge and collaboration. Someone who understands that great business partnering isn't simply about reporting what has happened — it is about helping leaders understand what it means, what matters next and what we can do differently.
Working closely with the Director, Finance Business Partnering & Performance, you will lead and develop a team of Senior Finance Business Partners and Finance Business Partners, while partnering with Executives, Divisional Directors, Program and Operational leaders and senior managers across clinical, operational and corporate portfolios.
A role with influence
You will play a key role in evolving Finance Business Partnering into an increasingly strategic, insight-led function.
You will also:
Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team of Senior Finance Business Partners and Finance Business Partners.
Partner with senior leaders and executives to drive sustainable financial performance, resource allocation and informed decision-making.
Provide strategic financial insight across budgets, forecasts, monthly performance, KPIs, activity, workforce and material variances.
Challenge and shape business cases, financial models, investment decisions, capital requests and financial improvement opportunities.
Strengthen the use of data analytics, value assessment and financial insight to improve the quality and impact of advice provided to our stakeholders.
Build financial literacy and commercial acumen across non-financial leadership groups.
Identify emerging risks, opportunities and trends and ensure these are surfaced early and addressed collaboratively.
Foster strong alignment between Finance Business Partnering and the broader Finance teams.
Represent Finance Business Partnering in key internal and external forums and deputise for the Director, Finance Business Partnering & Performance when required.
Importantly, this is not a role that operates in isolation.
You will work across a complex organisation where decisions are interconnected. Your ability to build relationships, bring people together and encourage a shared view of priorities will be just as important as your technical finance expertise.
We are looking for more than a finance expert
At this level, how you lead matters as much as what you know.
We are looking for a leader who builds trust quickly, creates clarity in complexity and is willing to have the conversations that matter.
You will be someone who:
Builds culture — creating an environment of trust, accountability, psychological safety and high performance.
Leads with curiosity — asking the right questions rather than simply providing the expected answers.
Challenges constructively — courageous enough to respectfully challenge assumptions and surface difficult issues early.
Connects people and priorities — bringing Finance, clinical and operational leaders together around shared outcomes rather than competing agendas.
Develops others — investing in the capability, confidence and strategic thinking of your team.
Stays calm in complexity — bringing sound judgement, resilience and perspective when priorities compete and the pressure is high.
Leads with integrity — modelling transparency, openness, accountability and respect in every interaction.
Thinks beyond the numbers — understanding the operational and human impact behind financial performance and using insight to influence better decisions.
If you are the kind of leader who can walk into a room of senior stakeholders, listen deeply, challenge thoughtfully and leave people with greater clarity than when you arrived, we want to hear from you.
What you'll bring
A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Business, Finance or a related discipline.
Extensive experience in a senior Finance or Business Leadership role.
Demonstrated experience leading high-performing finance/business partnering teams.
Strong financial analysis, modelling, forecasting, budgeting and business case capability.
Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the confidence to work with executives and senior operational and clinical leaders.
The ability to translate complex financial information into clear, practical and actionable advice.
A track record of leading change, building capability and embedding continuous improvement.
CPA, CA or equivalent professional membership is preferred.
Ready to make an impact?
If you are an accomplished finance leader who wants to use your expertise to influence, challenge, develop people and make a meaningful difference at scale, this could be your next opportunity.
We welcome applications from leaders who bring strong technical capability, commercial thinking and, most importantly, the judgement, courage and collaborative leadership style to make a genuine impact.
This is an opportunity to contribute to transformation initiatives that have a lasting impact on patients, staff and the community. You'll work alongside passionate leaders, influence organisation-wide change and help shape the future of healthcare delivery in Victoria.
