Full job description

The Opportunity

When the media talks about North Korea, it often focuses on dictators and nukes. But there’s so much more to the story than that. There are 26 million people with their own stories to tell. That’s where you come in.

We're looking for a gifted writer who thinks like a fundraiser. The Content & Donor Communications Manager is responsible for producing compelling content that moves people from awareness to giving. You'll craft the narratives and communications that inspire donors to invest in Liberty in North Korea's mission — and keep them engaged for the long haul. You will own the written voice of our organization across email, campaigns, and social media, with a particular focus on converting supporters into first-time donors and donors into long-term partners.

What you'll do

Donor Email Communications (50%)

  • Own and continuously optimize our three welcome email series for new supporters, new one-time donors, and new monthly donors
  • Develop all fundraising campaign content for 2–3 annual campaigns (World Refugee Day, Giving Tuesday, end-of-year/holiday, etc) with the goal of increasing donor acquisition
    • Emails
    • Landing pages
    • Site pop ups
    • Social posts
  • Work with the Marketing Operations Manager to analyze email performance data (open rates, click-through rates, conversion rates) and use insights to improve future copy
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Growth to monitor campaign performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and make adjustments in real-time to ensure that fundraising goals are met

Content Strategy & Storytelling  (30%)

  • Develop and maintain a consistent, compelling organizational voice across all written channels
    • Continuously refine LiNK’s voice and update internal communications guide as needed
  • Lead the creative development and execution of LiNK’s major acquisition and stewardship campaigns with the support of the Annual Fund Manager and Assistant Director of Growth
  • Translate complex programmatic work into donor-facing stories that build emotional connection and inspire action
  • Write blog posts, impact reports, annual reports, and campaign narratives that deepen supporter relationships and communicate the meaningful impact of our incredible donors
  • Create content for top-of-funnel campaigns, including gated content, educational courses, and other lead-generation strategies that motivate new audiences to engage and take action
  • Collaborate closely with the Graphic Designer to develop content that integrates written narrative with strong visual assets
  • Collaborate closely with LiNK’s Filmmaker to develop long-form video concepts around organizational needs (events, program promotion/impact, campaigns) and storytelling opportunities with our North Korean partners
    • On production days, assist with creative direction and conduct interviews to facilitate authentic, effective storytelling
    • Review video footage and provide feedback in post-production to ensure messaging and framing aligns with broader communications strategy

Social Media (20%)

  • Manage our presence across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Youtube and maintain a consistent posting schedule
  • Create social content that supports and amplifies email campaigns and fundraising initiatives
  • Monitor engagement and surface audience insights that inform broader communications strategy
  • Develop and execute social content strategies that grow awareness, attract new supporters, and cultivate new pathways to donor engagement

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising communications, direct response copywriting, or a closely related field where email conversion was a primary responsibility
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of formats: long-form storytelling, email communication, and campaign copy
  • Experience using performance data (open rates, CTR, conversion metrics) to inform and improve content strategy
  • Experience managing social media accounts for an organization or brand across multiple platforms
  • Hands-on experience developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns across social media, email, and other channels
  • Self-directed, proactive,, and comfortable pushing projects forward independently from start to finish
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities effectively

Preferred

  • Knowledge of donor psychology and giving motivations
  • Experience writing about complex humanitarian, social justice, or human rights issues for a general audience
  • Ability to write with clarity and empathy about complex or sensitive topics

Bonus Points For:

  • Photography experience
  • Working knowledge of graphic design
  • Korean language proficiency

Benefits

  • Health insurance (medical, dental, vision)
  • Paid sabbatical every 5 years
  • Retirement benefits (401k with company match)
  • Life insurance
  • Generous paid vacation, sick, and holiday leave
  • Winter break!
  • Flexible Spending Account (health and dependent care)
  • Professional development fund
