Assistant Director of Compliance and Quality Assurance

 

 

FLSA: Exempt

Reports To: Director of Corporate Compliance and Quality Assurance

Physical Requirements: Normal Office Environment

Hours of Work: Full Time, 37.5 hours/wk. Other hours as needed

 

Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Compliance & Quality Assurance supports the agency in ensuring the health, safety, rights, and quality of life of the people supported. This role provides leadership oversight of Incident Management and Quality Assurance functions, including investigations, internal audits, monitoring activities, corrective action planning, and regulatory compliance.

The Assistant Director works collaboratively with Operations staff, Human Resources, Training, and senior leadership to ensure compliance with OPWDD and OMIG regulations, agency policies, and best-practice quality standards. This position plays a key role in risk identification, trend analysis, and continuous quality improvement, while promoting a culture of accountability, learning, and prevention.

 

Job Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree (BS/BA) in a related field or Associate's Degree with two years of job-related experience required, preferably with quality assurance and/or improvement/safety; and/or oversight or coordination of residential and/or other programs for individuals with disabilities, health care delivery, educational services; and/or regulatory compliance, accreditation, and/or performance improvement in the foregoing fields.
  2. Minimum three years of administrative and progressive supervisory experience required.
  3. Must demonstrate proven leadership, communication, fiscal and administrative skills.
  4. Strong writing, communication, and analytical skills.
  5. Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
  6. Valid NYS Driver's License that meets agency standards and reliable transportation.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Guide the Internal Investigations Team, ensuring investigations are completed thoroughly, timely, and in compliance with OPWDD, Justice Center, and agency requirements.
  2. Oversee the tracking, review, and closure of all investigations, including documentation, findings, corrective actions, and required follow-up.
  3. Review investigative reports for accuracy, completeness, regulatory compliance, and clarity prior to submission.
  4. Conduct and provide guidance with internal audits, site reviews, and quality monitoring activities to assess compliance with OPWDD regulations, agency policies, and quality standards.
  5. Identify trends and systemic risks across incidents, investigations, audits, and monitoring activities, and communicate findings to leadership.
  6. Collaborate with program leadership and cross-functional teams to develop, implement, and monitor corrective action plans and preventive strategies.
  7. Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of compliance and quality assurance policies, procedures, and tools.
  8. Maintain organized, accurate records and tracking systems to support regulatory reviews, audits, and internal quality assurance processes.
  9. Provide guidance and technical assistance to managers and supervisors regarding compliance expectations, quality standards, and best practices.
  10. Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and risk reduction through leadership, coaching, and collaboration.
