Full job description

Join Our Mission at Lambs Farm

At Lambs Farm, we are passionately committed to enriching the lives of adults with developmental disabilities by providing them with meaningful work opportunities in a vibrant and intentional community. For over six decades, our farmyard, restaurants, stores, residential programs, and community services have helped individuals lead productive, fulfilling lives while building confidence, independence, and meaningful connections.

As we continue to expand our Day Services programs, we are creating new opportunities for participants to explore creativity, develop life skills, and engage more fully in their communities. Through LF Studios, Quest programming, and retirement services, participants are encouraged to pursue personal interests, build meaningful relationships, and achieve individual goals in a supportive and engaging environment.

Lambs Farm is a place where dignity, empowerment, and personal growth guide every interaction. Here, staff and participants work together to create experiences that inspire confidence, independence, and lifelong learning.

Do you enjoy helping others discover new interests, develop skills, and achieve meaningful goals? Lambs Farm may be the place for you.

Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Direct Support Professional to join our Day Services team. In this hands-on role, you will support adults with developmental disabilities as they participate in creative arts, life enrichment activities, retirement programming, and community experiences designed to promote independence and personal growth.

Reporting to Day Services leadership, you will facilitate engaging daily programming while implementing individualized supports that help participants build confidence, learn new skills, and pursue meaningful experiences. This role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact while working in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

The Role

  • Facilitate engaging activities within Quest programs, LF Studios, and retirement services that encourage creativity, learning, and social engagement
  • Support participants in exploring new interests through art, yoga, computer learning, wellness activities, and other hands-on experiences
  • Implement individualized service plans that promote independence, personal growth, and achievement of participant goals
  • Provide direct support and guidance while encouraging self-advocacy and skill development
  • Assist participants with daily activities and support needs while maintaining dignity and person-centered practices
  • Facilitate community integration through field trips, volunteer opportunities, recreational activities, and other community-based experiences
  • Transport and accompany participants to community outings, appointments, and activities as needed
  • Observe participant progress and communicate relevant information to supervisors and interdisciplinary team members
  • Collaborate with families, healthcare providers, and internal teams to ensure coordinated participant support
  • Maintain accurate documentation, progress notes, and required program records
  • Follow agency policies, safety procedures, and participant support protocols
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and engaging program environment that celebrates participant success
  • Travel locally (approximately 10-15%) to support community-based programming and participant activities

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Successful completion of the CASAS assessment
  • Valid driver's license from Illinois, Indiana, or Wisconsin
  • Ability to obtain PACE Driver Certification within 30 days of hire
  • Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities preferred but not required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships
  • Emotional maturity, patience, and a commitment to person-centered support
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team
  • Cultural sensitivity and respect for individuals of diverse backgrounds and abilities
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn agency software systems
  • Ability to lift, transfer, and assist participants as needed, including lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and daily responsibilities
  • Ability to adapt to changing participant needs and program priorities

Compensation

The hourly rate for this role is $17.00 per hour

Founded in 1961 by Bob Terese and Corinne Owen, Lambs Farm was created based on a simple belief: All people should be treated with dignity and respect and people with developmental disabilities can lead meaningful and productive lives. They opened The Lambs, a pet shop on State Street in downtown Chicago, to create work opportunities for people with developmental disabilities, and to demonstrate that they can do a great deal more than most people thought possible at the time. In 1965. W. Clement Stone donated what is now the 72-acre farm with a century old barn that we call home. We now serve 250 participants. Most of them live at Lambs Farm in one of our nine group homes, in our 16-unit apartment building or in our retirement residence. Some participants live in the surrounding community in single family homes owned and operated by Lambs Farm. Other participants live at home with their families but commute to Lambs Farm daily to work and take part in our many programs. Many of our people are employed in the community while many more choose to work at Lambs Farm in a wide array of jobs available to them through our businesses, work center, administration, groundskeeping and more.
