The Shelter Advocate provides 24-hour support, crisis intervention, and general oversight for clients in an emergency shelter for domestic violence survivors. Responsibilities include conducting intakes, maintaining case records, and ensuring a safe, clean environment through general housekeeping and facility monitoring.
Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in domestic violence and child abuse, along with a valid Ohio driver's license. The role requires the ability to work non-traditional hours and possess strong knowledge of the civil/criminal court systems and victim's rights.
The Shelter Advocate works to ensure that clients at Journey Center’s Emergency Shelter have a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for them to process their experiences and develop skills to a life free from domestic violence. Under the general supervision of shelter leadership, the Shelter Advocate provides support, advocacy, and general oversight of shelter operations and client wellbeing while clients are residing at shelter.
