Role Purpose

  • Safely operate automatic presses and related equipment to produce quality parts at established production rates.
  • Perform required quality checks, material handling, packaging, documentation, and basic troubleshooting to support efficient production and maximize equipment utilization.
  • Continuously develop the skills required to operate additional presses, support setups, troubleshoot operating issues, and advance through the Press Operator progression levels.

Core Accountabilities

Press Operation and Production

  • Operate automatic presses and related equipment, including feeders, straighteners, mandrels, stackers, sensors, and SmartPAC controls, according to work instructions and established safety procedures.
  • Perform equipment startup and shutdown, coil changes, material feeding, lubrication checks, counter adjustments, and routine operating activities. Assist with die changes, machine setups, prestaging, and setup verification as trained and assigned.
  • Run equipment at standard rates while monitoring material flow, part quality, equipment performance, and production status to minimize downtime.

Quality, Systems, and Documentation

  • Use measuring devices, gauges, and fixtures to complete required inspections, verify part quality, and accurately document results.
  • Follow JobWeb, CheckWeb, setup sheets, packaging instructions, and other applicable work instructions. Accurately record production time, material usage, scrap, rejects, and required transactions in RFPRO, Plex, SmartPAC, and related systems.
  • Identify nonconforming material or product and follow established containment, reporting, and escalation procedures.

Troubleshooting and Equipment Support

  • Identify common operating concerns involving stock alignment, material defects, feeding, sensors, counters, lubrication, setup, quality, and equipment performance. Make authorized adjustments within the operator’s demonstrated training level.
  • Promptly request assistance for tooling, maintenance, setup, or quality concerns beyond the operator’s training or authority, and support Production, Maintenance, Tool Room, Quality, Setup, and Steel Handling personnel in restoring production.

Packaging, 5S, and Team Support

  • Stack, label, package, band, and move finished product according to job and customer requirements while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work center through daily 5S activities.
  • Assist and train team members as assigned and support other production areas when business needs require.

Education, Language, and Travel Requirements

The employee must be able to read, write, and follow manufacturing work instructions in English; add and subtract decimals, fractions, and percentages; and demonstrate mechanical aptitude and the ability to use measuring devices such as micrometers and calipers. Limited travel may be required.

Work is performed around moving machinery and continuous noise, with possible exposure to dust, grease, moisture, fumes, odors, chemicals, varying temperatures, cuts, burns, and outdoor weather. Strict adherence to safety procedures is required.

  • Production at established standard rates with accurate reporting of time, material, scrap, rejects, and other required transactions.
  • Quality performance, accurate use of measuring devices and fixtures, and proper response to nonconforming material or product.
  • Effective troubleshooting, timely escalation of problems, equipment uptime support, workplace organization, and daily 5S performance.
