The postdoctoral researcher will collect and analyze data on co-improvisation processes using algorithm logs and performance recordings. They will also contribute to scientific publications and the valuation of research results within the InAI project.
A PhD in musicology, musical computing, or cognitive music sciences is required, along with proven skills in empirical or computational musicology. Proficiency in English is mandatory, and experience with the Max language and statistical analysis is desired.

L’Institut de recherche et coordination acoustique/musique (association à but non lucratif) est aujourd’hui l’un des plus grands centres de recherche publique au monde se consacrant à la création musicale et à la recherche scientifique. Associé·e à l’équipe Analyse des Pratiques Musicales du Laboratoire STMS (CNRS, IRCAM, Sorbonne Université, Ministère de la Culture), le/la postdoctorant·e intégrera le projet ANR JC/JC « Inside Artificial Improvisation » (InAI), sous la supervision de Pierre Saint-Germier.
L’improvisation artificielle, sous-domaine de l’IA musicale, vise à concevoir des algorithmes et des agents musicaux capables de participer à des performances collectives improvisées avec des humains ou d’autres agents. Cependant, l’opacité des modèles génératifs — notamment lorsqu’ils sont entraînés par apprentissage automatique — limite la compréhension de la musique ainsi produite. InAI postule que cette opacité peut être réduite en analysant l’improvisation artificielle comme une musique plus qu’humaine, combinant une étude fine des algorithmes et de l’expérience des co-improvisateur·trices.
Le projet s’articule autour de quatre modules ciblant des problèmes d’opacité distincts :

des données quantitatives et qualitatives sur le comportement et l’expérience des musicien·nes.
La contribution aux publications scientifiques et à la valorisation des résultats.
