Responsibilities

Fellows will undergo training in the state legislative process to advance an educational equity agenda in Texas. They will build advocacy campaigns focused on college access and completion while collaborating with statewide coalitions.

Requirements

Applicants must be committed to a full-time, in-person role in Austin and demonstrate a passion for protecting public education. Required qualifications include excellent writing skills and experience relevant to educational justice and marginalized communities.

IDRA is changing the landscape of state education advocacy by training early- to mid-career advocates to influence state laws and lead a powerful network of impacted and engaged communities.

To be eligible, fellowship applicants must:

  • Be committed to a full-time, in-person fellowship between September 29, 2026, and June 28, 2027.
  • Live within about 30 minutes of Austin.
  • Have demonstrated connections to historically-marginalized communities most impacted by inequities in the public education system.
  • Have a demonstrated interest in education justice, through personal and/or professional experiences, and have a desire to grow knowledge about state-level policymaking.
  • Be committed to expanding access to excellent pre-K-12 and college opportunities for students, particularly students of color, emergent bilingual students, immigrant students, students from families with limited incomes and other historically-marginalized groups.
