Vegetation Management Safety Specialist – Construction Management

Atlas Field Services (AFS) is currently seeking Vegetation Management Safety Professionals with construction management experience to join our team. Interested applicants must reside in the area or be willing to relocate to the area.

Who You Are:

You’re energetic and enjoy working outdoors. You understand that this space can be demanding, and you make sure you have the tools and resources to get the job done. You’re comfortable reading and enforcing contract terms, partnering with operations and contractors to keep projects on schedule, and stepping in to resolve issues at the field level. You have experience in vegetation management and utility construction, with a track record of leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Administer Vegetation Management field/yard assessments, focusing on the specific areas of skill or knowledge relevant to the VM task(s) being performed.
• Work may involve extreme weather, day or night conditions, and hiking to observe chainsaw use, tree felling, climbing and cutting aloft, climbing and bucking, and use of an aerial lift, among other tasks.
• Perform initial and subsequent safety observations and field observations of VM activities, including new and/or difficult skills and techniques, with general guidance on new assignments; complete written or computer-based documentation of each observation.
• Document and communicate observation results to frontline supervision/leadership using standardized templates and forms.
• Share outcomes, observations, trends, gaps, and issues with your direct supervisor and the employee's supervisor/manager to help develop and implement mitigating strategies as needed.
• Address identified gaps and issues to improve observations, coaching tools, processes, and/or materials.
• Ensure observation processes are followed and observation records are maintained in compliance with CM program requirements.
• Collaborate with stakeholder groups to ensure appropriate process and asset recommendations are implemented and maintained.
• Serve as the point of contact for regional contract escalation resolution.
• Escalate contractual issues for resolution immediately, at the field level while onsite.
• Partner with operations to ensure T&E requests are reviewed timely, fairly, and consistently across regions.
• Partner with contractors to resolve delays in payments, T&E requests, and contractual concerns in real time.
• Partner with operations to ensure quality and schedule performance align with contract expectations.
• Partner with operations to identify underperforming contractors and develop recovery plans tied to schedule, quality, safety, and cost.
• Deliver contract terms, units, definitions, and enforcement training to internal and external partners.
• Work will take place on a series of rights-of-way throughout California, in populated and remote areas, requiring an extensive amount of walking in an observe-and-report role and an extensive amount of driving between areas of work.
• Promote a behavior-based safety culture and ensure compliance with client requirements, Cal-OSHA, and any applicable federal, state, and local agencies.
• Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Any technical or continuing education in a related field (Forestry, Utility Vegetation Management, and/or Logging).
• Valid Driver's License.
• CPR / First Aid
• OSHA 30
• Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP) or Consulting Utility Forester Safety Professional (CUFSP).
• Electric Hazard Awareness Program (EHAP).

EXPERIENCE:

• Five (5) years of experience in the arboriculture industry, or military experience plus three (3) years in the arboriculture industry.
• One (1) year in a trainer or safety position.
• One (1) year performing work relevant to safety observations.
• Utility line clearance experience.
• Training experience within the arboriculture/utility line clearance industry.
• Strong knowledge of the technical discipline for which you are providing safety observations and/or field/yard assessments.
• Thorough understanding of specific work methods and procedures, including all safety practices.
• Customer service skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to effectively coach and provide feedback.
• Leadership and collaboration skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); SAP skills.
• Knowledge of OSHA Logging Regulations, ANSI Z133 Standards, and PG&E Safe Work Practices.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS:

• International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Credentials.
• Commercial Driver's License.
• OSHA 30
