The Registered Nurse provides immediate post-operative recovery care, including advanced pain and airway management for patients recovering from various types of anesthesia. They are responsible for assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and utilizing computerized systems for documentation.
Candidates must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and hold BCLS, Critical Care, or Emergency Department certifications. A minimum of one year of Critical Care/Emergency experience and two years of acute surgical experience are required.

The Registered Nurse in the PACU functions within the full scope of his/her nursing practice to assess the care needs of his/her patient and to develop a plan of care based on the assessment. The RN collaborates with the Resource Nurse as well as other members of the care team to evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan:
