The apprentice will participate in a structured training program to learn how to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair transit buses and their associated systems. They will work under the supervision of certified technicians to gain hands-on experience with diesel, electric, hybrid, and alternative fuel propulsion systems.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED and demonstrate mechanical aptitude. The role requires the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and relevant certifications such as ASE or a diesel mechanic degree.
Description
The Transit Bus Mechanic Apprentice participates in a structured training program designed to develop the skills necessary to become a Journey-level Transit Bus Technician. Apprentices receive a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction while working under the supervision of certified technicians.
The program prepares apprentices to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair transit buses and related systems, including diesel, electric, hybrid, and alternative fuel propulsion systems, electrical systems, brake systems, HVAC systems, and vehicle body components.
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship program, employees may advance to Transit Bus Technician / Journey-Level Mechanic positions.
