JOB DESCRIPTION

 

FLSA Status: Part Time / Non-Exempt

Summary: Support the Store Manager (SM) in the tasks of the daily operations of Hope's Door New Beginning Center (HDNBC) Resale shop. Your role is to assist and support customers, donors, and clients as they shop to support the mission of HDNBC.

Direct Report: HDNBC Resale Store Manager

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential job functions:

  • Unloads/loads, receives, and sorts donations, prepares merchandise for sales floor, and assists with store displays as necessary.
  • Demonstrates excellent and timely customer service, including answering staff, donor, and client questions, and ringing up customer purchases.
  • Works to maintain resale store merchandise and store atmosphere are in good order, including routine cleaning tasks, assistance with inventory, maintenance of clothes racks and dressing rooms.
  • Accurately follows financial procedures for cash, check, and credit card transactions.
  • Collaboratively works with SM and Agency to continue to develop the store and participates in regular Resale Store meetings/communication.

Requirements:

  • Prefer at least I year of equivalent experience in working in a retail environment. Bilingual preferred.
  • Must be able to work weekends.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Skills:

  • Ability to be customer focused, self-motivated, and a self-starter.
  • Knowledge of basic retail store inventory, merchandising and production.
  • Ability to organize, sort, and categorize items.
  • Ability to follow standard operating policies and procedures for all store and agency functions including processing donations, working with customers at the register, maintaining a safe and risk-free environment.
  • Ability to represent HDNBC in a positive manner by providing excellent customer service at all times.
  • Ability to be a team player and have a friendly and engaging personality with customers and clients.
  • Ability to support HDNBC store volunteers in the operational procedures and explain the policies as related to the job, as requested.
  • Effective oral and written communication with staff, volunteers and the public. Basic knowledge or skills using Microsoft applications like Word and Outlook. Ability to pick up and unload donations and work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to run a cash register and perform all cash/check/credit card transactions.
  • Demonstrates experience with and sensitivity to varying cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds, values, and attitudes.
  • Acceptance of agency philosophies regarding domestic violence, internal conflict resolutions and how decisions are made.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work is performed in a warehouse like setting where some dust and dirt are present. HDNBC Resale staff should be physically fit as they will be on their feet for most of the day and will be required to lift large amounts of stock. Work may require pulling, and carrying up to 50 pounds; frequent bending, climbing stairs, and reaching. Hours may require opening and closing the store in morning and evening hours.
