Reports To: Program Manager, High School Programs
Classification: Non-Exempt, Part-Time Supervisory

Summary/Objective:
Under the leadership and guidance of the Program Manager, the Career Readiness After School Teacher provides engaging, high-quality instruction to high school students participating in Grace Place's after-school program at Golden Gate High School. The teacher prepares students for post-secondary and career success through career exploration, workforce readiness, leadership development, and employability skills. Additionally, hands-on experiences will be provided in several high-demand fields in Southwest Florida (health care, manufacturing, and technology). This position fosters a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes student growth, confidence, and future success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruction and Student Learning
  •  Plan and deliver engaging career readiness lessons aligned with Grace Place curriculum and program goals.
  •  
  • Teach workforce readiness/durable skills including communication, teamwork, professionalism, time management, leadership, and problem-solving.
  • Facilitate career exploration activities that expose students to a variety of career pathways and postsecondary opportunities.
  • Incorporate project-based learning and hands-on activities that connect classroom learning with real-world careers, particularly in local, high demand fields
  • Support students in developing resumes, interviewing skills, professional communication, and job search strategies.
  • Prepare students for internships, work-based learning experiences, industry certifications, and employment opportunities as appropriate.
  • Utilize technology to enhance instruction and student engagement.

Student Engagement
  • Build positive, supportive relationships with students that foster belonging and personal growth.
  • Maintain a positive classroom culture that encourages student participation, respect, and accountability.
  • Monitor student attendance and actively encourage consistent participation.
  • Recognize and celebrate student accomplishments and progress.
  • Address student behavior using Grace Place expectations and restorative practices.
  • Serve as a positive mentor and role model.

Program Support
  • Collaborate with Grace Place staff, school personnel, volunteers, and community partners to support program objectives.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and other required program documentation.
  • Submit lesson plans and required reports according to program expectations.
  • Assist with career fairs, guest speakers, field trips, and special events.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Career and Technical Education, Business, Human Resources, Counseling, or a related field preferred.
  • Florida Teaching Certificate preferred but not required.
Experience
  • Experience teaching or working with high school students preferred.
  • Experience in workforce development, career education, college readiness, youth development, or related fields preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to establish meaningful relationships with adolescents from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong classroom management and youth engagement skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of career readiness, employability skills, and workforce expectations.
  • Ability to motivate students toward academic and career goals.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with school personnel, community partners, and Grace Place staff.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Bilingual (Spanish or Haitian Creole) preferred.
  • Passion for the Grace Place mission and commitment to serving underserved youth.

Position Type and Expected Working Hours
  • Part-time.
  • Regular work schedule is Monday through Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:45 p.m.
  • Additional hours may occasionally be required for staff meetings, professional development, special events, field trips, or family engagement activities.
Work Environment
  • Work is performed primarily at Golden Gate High School in a classroom setting. Occasional work may occur outdoors or at community locations for field trips, career exploration activities, and special events.
Physical Demands
  • This position requires standing and walking for extended periods while instructing students. Duties include bending, reaching, sitting, and occasional lifting or moving of instructional materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Must successfully pass a Level II FDLE/FBI background screening.
  • Must meet all Grace Place, Collier County Public Schools, and Department of Children and Families requirements for working with youth.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the program site.

Background Screening Requirement
All applicants must successfully complete required State and National background screening as a condition of employment prior to beginning work at Grace Place for Children and Families. Screening is conducted in accordance with applicable Florida law, including Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, and, when applicable, Chapter 408, Florida Statutes.

Background screening includes fingerprinting for FDLE and FBI criminal history checks and review through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse. Employment is contingent upon receipt, review, and approval of screening results.
