GE Vernova Grid Solutions is seeking a Control & Protection Application Engineer to support the design, development, modelling, verification, and application of HVDC Control and Protection systems for LCC and VSC HVDC schemes. The role spans tendering, project execution, contractual support, after-sales activities, and future NPI-driven developments, with a strong focus on model-based design using MATLAB/Simulink as the reference engineering environment. The engineer will work within a multi-disciplinary team and contribute across the full delivery lifecycle, from requirement definition and functional design through simulation, verification, and continuous improvement

Key Responsibilities
Control & Protection Design and Requirements
Analyze customer technical specifications and define HVDC control and protection system requirements, including identification of deviations from standard solutions.
Prepare control, protection, and sequencing strategy specifications, including start-up, shutdown, and fault recovery sequences.
Define requirements and ensure adherence to engineering best practices, internal standards, and standard product methodologies.
Design, develop, model, and debug HVDC control and protection algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink, including control algorithms, protection logic and interlocks, supervisory control and state machines & sequencing functions
Perform algorithm and state-machine development in MATLAB/Simulink as the master design reference.
Develop verification models in MATLAB and create test harnesses to support model validation and conversion activities.
Maintain model documentation and model guides to support reuse and standardization.
Perform plant modeling of HVDC systems using MATLAB, PSCAD, RSCAD, EMTP-type tools, and verify consistency across platforms.
Execute HVDC system modeling in electromagnetic transient tools such as PSCAD, EMTP-RV, RSCAD, including network conversion (PSSE → PSCAD / RSCAD where applicable) along with model verification and validation
Convert MATLAB/Simulink control algorithms into PSCAD / RSCAD / other time-domain library models.
Perform Dynamic Performance Studies (DPS) using offline and online simulation tools.
Tune control and protection parameters to meet grid stability and performance criteria specified in customer technical requirements.
Analyze and resolve power fault recovery and instability issues identified during DPS or system studies.
Execute assigned control design, protection design, and verification work packages on time and within defined budgets, under guidance from lead engineers.
Follow departmental standard design practices, engineering reviews, and verification guidelines.
Support model verification, functional testing, and validation activities across simulation environments.
Support R&D and NPI teams in developing and improving existing and new control and protection products, tools, and strategies.
Contribute to development of new control, protection, and sequencing strategies to meet evolving customer or grid requirements.
Propose and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team effectiveness and efficiency through improved tools, methods, and processes.
Promote reuse of standard solutions to improve quality, reliability, and delivery timelines while reducing cost.
Support Tendering, Operations, Contractual, and After-Sales activities related to HVDC control and protection systems & collaborate across multiple teams
Participate in cross-functional training and knowledge sharing to strengthen overall engineering capability.
Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and customers; prepare technical reports and respond to technical queries.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Engineering degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Power Electronics, or Control Engineering.
•Experience 3 to 6 Years in HVDC Control, Protection, and Sequencing strategy development
Knowledge of power system stability and performance analysis.
Experience with PSS®E, PowerFactory, ETAP or similar tools.
Exposure to real-time or HIL simulation platforms (RTDS, OPAL-RT).
Experience in process improvement, RCA, or standardization initiatives.
Strong experience in MATLAB/Simulink-based model development for control and protection systems.
Solid understanding of HVDC systems, including control, protection, sequencing, and AC–DC system interactions.
Experience with PSCAD, RSCAD, EMTP-type tools for HVDC system and plant modeling.
Ability to identify and manage technical risks and work under schedule pressure while maintaining engineering integrity.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to engage in customer technical discussions.
Willingness to support global projects, including flexible working hours and travel.
